Concur that, even with the significant price reductons, that these are overpriced for what they are, but not sure what you mean by hard to find? That they are hard to come by in australia/where you live?

i mean on australian sites. exchange rate is bad now, so its hard to find em.

i have found a couple websites, yet they are extremely expensive

Ah right, makes sense now. I have picked up that Australia can be expensive for hp's and late to release new items. Must suck somewhat but what can you do? Being from UK (within Europe), we get ripped off significantly when compared to the US and Canada. You're completely at the hands of the markets where you live, unfortunately.

I just received my SE530's from Earphonesolutions for a very decent price, ended up costing $435 AUD. However this was before the financial slump when the dollar was around 0.85 to 1 USD. Now they will cost around $530 after conversion :S The cheapest I have found them in AUS are $545 without shipping or $569 shipped.

In terms of sound wow. I loved my E4's but this is another level on top of that. They are so light and comfortable and sound so good I don't want to take them off.

I own the original E5 series that have been the benchmark for many years. Other competitors have gained ground recently as which happens in any technology. I bought the SE 500 (which are identical to 530's prior to the re-branding) at an Airport Wirelsess store while bored and stranded in Atlanta -- expensive layover. I do love these and would recommend them. I paid $500+ w/taxes. When I bought the E5's they listed at $499 however I properly researched best prices on the internet and found a best price for $329 at Abe's of Maine. I read recently that Shure is getting pissy about honoring warranties when pucrchased from "non-authorized" dealers. I bought mine and they arrived new/first quality and have had no problems.

se530 get my vote, ive always felt competing phones such as the triple fi and um2 just try too hard, the trple fi for example has clearer highs and the highs should not be the talking point of phones, it should be how natural they are and the se530 is very realistic and natural, making for a better experience.

unless highs really is your thing in which case the triple fi offers not better highs just more and louder highs

I was scared about spending so much on IEMs so ended up compromising for a cheaper set.. bad move! In the end I got the 530s anyway, and it's very easy to justify the price when you get em

wow you scored I also got mine from earphone sollutions but it was a mistake of theirs to sell them to me; your warranty is invalid. they are not supposed to sell them to anyone outside of the US. so shure australia can continue to charge $690AUD retail. I only got mine because i returned my triples because of sibilance and fit issues so I bypassed the shopping cart.

that asside I LOOOOOVE them I hardly ever take them off and the cable thing is a non issue for me. and they scale quite well too; for a while I was happily using them with my iphone 3G unamped (which is actually a really good synergy) but after using them with my semipro audio interface on my mac I found that they had quoite a bit more potential. so I bought a pico and now i'm in heaven

the cables in the mid 2008 model are fine at least for my skin type i've had mine for about 5months now and no sign of them perishing at all. what I would recommend though is to wipe the cables with a damp cloth with mild soapy water evry week or so. as well as rubbing some armorall or similar liquid (the stuff they use to keep tyres in good nik) rub some of that in every month or so. if you cant get any olive oil or vegetable oil is a good substitute. this keeps the cable in good shape and nice and soft. I wear mine almost 24/7 if they're not in my ears they're hanging around my neck.

hope this helps

I recommend getting the comply T400 foam tips for them; it tightens up the bass; they dont last, or isolate quite as well as the shure black foamies but the SQ is MUCH better IMO also they maintain the seal better (at least for my ears) I found the shure tips could lose seal and therefor bass while eating or yawning etc. I don't have that issue with the comply. next step sensephonics custom mould tips
