Convince me to buy Beyer DT880s

You don't see how charging an additional $150 for the same damn product not ripping someone off?

I took a simple leap of faith and figured they would be competitive right off the bat. I had no idea the price delta woud be over $100 dollars. That is simply ridiculous.

First off it's 105.00 difference. You get the phones in 2 days instead of 3-4 weeks. If your not capable of finding the best deal on your own don't blame someone else. I'm pretty sure you called them, and they didn't call you for the phones. Where there some kind of hidden charges you didn't see coming? I doubt it. So no I don't think you got ripped off. Do I think you made the wisest choice? No, but thats on you.

Tom: I'm in Quebec, Canada (if you click on the link above it'll give you the details for charges and all)

BELMONT: The beyer's aren't an american product, they're made somewhere in Europe (Switzerland?), so if you buy them from an american distributor they are bound to be more expensive. Kind of like buying AT's from the states, or Grados in Australia, etc..

Happens all the time.. I bought a Fender Strat (Guitar) for a 1000$CDN a few years ago, went to the states, and noticed they were almost half the price I paid there! Same for a Digitech effects pedal, sold for 600+ here, and I bought it in Florida for almost half the price!

Meier audio probably gets the headphones cheaper than headroom, although, I think generally headroom is a bit on the expensive side, although like tom mentionned they seem to give 30 day guarantee, etc...

[edit] So did you get ripped off? Not really, the average going price for the Beyers in the states is probably in the area you've paid.. Buying them directly from Europe (like we're doing when buying from Meier) would have been cheaper, but that dosen't mean you got ripped off. Its the same thing here, Beyers are much more expensive than if bought from meier! Just take this as a learning experience, and be more carefull in the future

[edit2(lol)] I was looking for Koss UR20's for cheap, comfortable can throw anywhere headphones for gaming. States: 14.95$US, about 20$CDN. Couldn't find anywhere, UR30 are 20$US ~30$cdn, here, the cheaper I found, was 64.99$CDN!! MORE than double! Found the UR20's online, from canadian retailer, paid about 35$CDN for them, much more than what they're worth in the states, ripped off? Not really, they're much more expensive here...

GirgleMirt, Like I said I can only speak of the cost to where I live. I don't no about Canadas laws. If you check out the WWW.meier-audio.com website maybe they can save you some money.
BELMONT, Two things I do no about you.
1.-- You didn't get ripped off.
2.-- You need a check-up from the neck-up.

Belmont, it costs more for the Headroom to acquire them. Should they sell them at a loss just so that you're happy?

You also have the peice of mind that they are covered under an American warranty. If you have problems, for the first 30 days, The Headroom is there for you. If it's after 30 days, Beyerdynamic in the US is there for you. That probably isn't true if you bought the Beyers in Europe.

If you're willing to take the risk and order them with probably no warranty coverage but cheaper from Europe, then by all means do. Many have done it, and it's a great way to save money, and Jan Meier is great to deal with. But it's up to you to be the smart consumer here.

Just be happy that the extra 100 bucks gives you peice of mind if something goes wrong with your 880s.

And why do we have to explain these things? How old are you?

Never heard that before, but its pretty funny! Haha. Anyway, I can understand how BELMONT feels. He is embarassed that he is so utterly thick. If you automatically decide to purchase from one retailer without shopping around, there is no reason why you should be surprised that you find the same product elsewhere for cheaper. You can't automatically assume that one retailer sells a particular product for the cheapest price around, even if that retailer claims to do so (by the way, HeadRoom does not make this claim). So BELMONT in a way I guess you ripped yourself off!

HeadRoom is a great company with great customer service. It is true that they might not sell products at the cheapest prices around (some of them are), but the warranty, return policy, and customer service is well worth the extra price (if you are willing to pay it). I have dealt with HeadRoom in the past and I have to say I was very pleased. Next time you wish to make a big purchase and not get "ripped off," go shopping. Or just appreciate the extra benefits you have received for shopping at HeadRoom.

plainsong has it right. its not just with headphones this arguments goes around for everything.

why must ppl assume the best place to buy is the place with the cheapest price??

I as I'm sure plenty of people have been burnt when trying to shave a few $$ off the price. Order from people you can trust.

What exactly would you need the notebook for, btw? Because if you just need to take down some notes and write a few texts, a used Psion Series 5 could be a good idea...

Greetings from Munich!
