of reading did it give then and now, after the sparks?

mine hasn't sparked yet and emission test on a tv7du showed very
strong when i first received it... 65/64 with 40 being approx. 65%.

I haven't done this. I am interested to know where I can get a reasonably priced tube tester, particularly in the UK if possible.

Thanks for reporting in

How many hours do you have on your tube? Have you found any sound degradation at all?

I guess I never tried to turn on the amp in the dark so I never saw the flash until last night I turned it on without any lights on. Don't notice any sound degradation though.

I can try and do that. What precautions do I need to take when removing the bottom cover of the transformer unit as I understand from previous advice that there is a high voltage remaining within the capacitors?
Is there a way of draining the capacitors?

Happy to take some pics but don't want to die trying

no problems. since you won't be touching any component you don't have to
worry at all. just unplug the powercord, umbilical cord between the two units
and the tubes. carefully set it on its side or completely upside down. unscrew the
six or so screws holding the bottom plates in place. that's it! just don't touch
anything inside. take as many pics as required and replace the plates and you're
done!

arcing of the rectifier should lead to humming sounds in both channels that will
gradually get louder as the rectifier dies... hopefully slowly so that it doesn't
take any caps, resistors along with it...

Yeah, it's a bit disturbing when you see the flash!

Great, thanks. I will try to do it by or at the weekend.

No humming so far, but there is still time

here's something i completely neglected in regards to arcing tubes;
has anyone with the spark/arc issue heard any popping or static
noise in conjunction with the sparking? if there's an overload of
current/voltage on the cathode plates causing an electrical arc
over to the anode plate there should be popping or some sort of
electrical noise coming thru the headphone... i assume.

i noticed pinging and popping sounds from the valveart 274b
before it died several weeks later.

You may or amy not hear anything. I normally have not on my preamps and amps that have done this. On a preamp by Quicksilver Audio that used 2 6X4's in series there was never any sound, just a slow deterioration of the sound that was most noticeable when the rectifiers were replaced.

No popping or static (yet!) The background is completely silent when the music is paused and I do not hear any popping or static when it is playing either.

good news... can you tell me how long it takes for the rectifier to
emit that spark once the power is turned on? is it immediate? or
after approx. 8 - 10 sec.? very curious...

I have no idea if there's any popping or static. I only see the sparking when I flip the power switch to "ON". I do not put my headphones on until the amp is powered up and stabilized, just in case there are any unexpected loud noises.

The sparks and flash are immediate. Why do you ask? If I then turn the amp off, wait 10 seconds and turn it on again then I rarely if ever see the flash or sparks.

there shouldn't be any loud or sudden noise... just a tube "rush" humming that
gets filtered off within 10-15 secs... if you hear a popping or loud noise, then
try another rectifier to confirm if it's the amp or rectifier... contact jack if all
your rectifiers make a popping noise upon start up.
