With the expected announcement of the ATH-ESW10JPN and the somewhat unexpected AD1000PRM (ESW10 thread here), Audio-Technica quietly announced the new ES55. Unlike the ES5, this new Ear Suit model looks somewhat like a miniature version of the ES7. The ES55 will be released in Japan in late October (MSRP: ¥12,600 ≈ $120).

I forgot to mention that these won't be released in Japan until October 24. Unfortunately, it seems like we're the only two people who are interested in these phones.

Yeah, but these threads usually get 500 views and at least more than a couple replies.

I edited the thread title to reel some more people in.

I definitely dig the aesthetics of these 'phones. The change to flat black/white from the chrome was a good move, especially for a portable headphone that's guaranteed to get covered in fingerprints.

I wonder if they sound good? As long as they don't have the ES7's funky midrange but keep most everything else they should be good stuff.

i had the es5 a few years ago and loved them. the only bad thing was the weird arm and fit that they used so i'm glad that in the latest version they've gone to a more traditional design. it's been quite a while since i've last heard them but from memory, they were smoother and better balanced than the PX200. in fact, the PX200 didn't compare. hopefully the ES55 will be just as nice.

I can't stand such headbands pressing on my hair when I'm out in the streets. Will really like something similar with the headband behind the head.

They look great, just like the ES7.

Everything on audiocubes is pricier than one would expect.

The ES55 sells on amazon.jp for 8,598 JPY ($88) and the ES7 for 11,084 JPY ($114). I'm sure the ES55 will show up cheaper soon on a site that ships to the US, etc.

They are even cheaper now on amazon.jp (8,111 JPY) and they ship for free. They only ship to Japan though.

I like the clean look this headphone. No fancy shiny part, no weird cupholders, me likes.

Maybe someone from Japan can hook us up? I am really not prepared to pay almost twice as much on AC.
