Greetings from a Head-Fi N00b!

Ok, I want a new set of IEM's, and I need them for the gym.

I have my mind set on the Sansa Clip 4GB player but I am not sure about the phones. My cap is $100 and they have to stay in my ears during a pretty hard run.

I am looking at the Custom-2's by Klipsch as they are low profile (I have a narrow head so anything that sticks out of my ears looks completely ridiculous) and they seem to have the fit down. They even advertise them for the running.

Are they good as far as audio quality goes? Better options out there? As much as I hate to say, I am not an audiophile, but I do like good sound, the better it sounds the more I like.

PS: I come from the following audio equipment - Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, Creative Itrigue L3800, Creative EP-630s and Bose Triports (don't laugh please), I listen to 95% classic rock, and I have a totally open mind as you all know way more on this stuff than me.

Not bad for a "n00b", actually. We'll slowly wean you off your Triports...

IMO, get cheap ones for the gym. If it's not too noisy and earclips don't piss you off, go KSC75s. If you really do want IEMs/canalphones, why not use your EP630s? Or CX300s? If you must have a higher end set for the gym...Westone UM2? Apparently, they're not too conducting and microphonic, and they're built well.

I'd say EP630 or CX300 for the gym.
Whichever one you can get cheaper.

UE super.fi 3 stay on pretty well for the gym. Only problem is they have a troublesome fit and a larger profile than most IEMs unless they're flip flopped and then they may stick out somewhat even then.

You could probably get a pair of Etymotic ER-6i's around the price. With the triple flange not only will you only hear your music...but I'm pretty sure they'd never slip out.

Haha they're going on eBay this friday, and I had my reasons (poorly justified, albeit) at the time.

Interesting suggestion, usually clips have never been so great on my ears, but they weren't anything special.

Well, the EP630s have horrible (I mean horrible) microphonics. Westone UM2 is quite a bit out of my price range, UM1 maybe?

And another thing, these are for the gym in addition to my regular all day phones, so I do kind of want a higher end set.

er 6i's won't come out of your ear in a LONG time, you'd almost rip the cable off before they'd come out. v-moda vibes are like that also and have a more fun less analytic sound to them but lots of people have reported them dying in a couple months. if you really care about isolation go for the er 6i if you want $100 or less, theyre $70 shipped from amazon

ER-6i's sound like a good choice too. Do they go well with rock though?
And I don't know about the Vibes, I want mine to last (friends broke in a couple months too)
Forgot to mention I owned the Panasonic RP-HJE70s for a while (definitely the best I've had so far) wouldn't stay in my ear

^ Nope. ER-6i aren't rock IEMs, unfortunately. And I didn't realize the 630s were terribly microphonic. I expected them to be like the CX300s, pretty much.

I think you should give the KSC75s a try, since they're so cheap anyway. They're good enough to be all day cans too, IMO. I never did get using IEMs for the gym (because of the bone conduction and microphonics), but I'm the minority here on that, I think.

DANG! Those are cheap. Definitely worth a shot (I was thinking they were $50 or so). So the Custom-2 not very popular around hear, eh?

And the KSC75s compared to what I've heard? Better? Worse?

Over-the-ear is where it's at for IEMs.

The er 6i's don't have much bass but they are very precise and detailed at the rest - I listened to some and they are quite different from the vibes. Personally I think I like the vibes more for what kind of music I listen to (rock ish music) but that's just me and my friend has had his set for almost 2 years without issues so I'm not as weary of the they break part. And I would find myself in lots of trouble with the insane isolation of the er 6i's

Also, wearing them over the ear kills almost all vibrations etc coming through them. The KSC75s are good but I can't stand a big thing hanging of my ear, if you can go for those

Interesting, so that whole two years thing changed my opinion on this situation. Here is where I'm at now: Vibes vs. Custom-2... and I'm gonna buy the KSC75s to try 'em out too.

I agree with one of the previous posts that over the ear is great for sports. I also tie the the two cables (left and right) with a piece of thread just below my adam's apple and this gives a bomproof fit with no microphonics and no dangling cable when running it inside your shirt.
