i was reading a review of the latest high-def transfer of "terminator 2" on dvd, and they decided not to include a dts audio track so they could include a dolby heapdhone track instead(surround sound on headphones).

t2 extreme edition (see dvd details)

so, does one need a dolby headphone decoder on their reciever to get the dolby headphone audio track to work?

Nope..that means you can enable it on a menu on your DVD player and enjoy it through your receiver or amp with any headphones. No decoder needed on your DVD player or receiver.

Pearl Harbor also has a Dolby Headphone track.

my reciever auto-detects dd, dts, etc. when it encounters a stereo track on a dvd (2.0), i have it set to default to pro-logic 2, which is simulated surround. for dolby headphone, should i set it to "stereo" instead?

My receiver also auto-detects....so I just put on Pearl Harbor just to see...I selected Dolby Headphone in the DVDs Audio setup menu...and my receiver selected Dolby Digital Stereo to play it in ...so it should happen automatically...the Dolby Headphone signal is two channel but with lots of groovy ear-fooling illusions.

I know Pearl Harbor is in DH3, and I would suspect that T2 is the same...

The DH3 gives the most bang for the buck for this technology and gives the most "big" dynamic sound to impress...

I was disturbed to read here, in a discussion about DH1, DH2, and DH3: Quote:

Not all Dolby Headphone products will provide all three options. Those that only have one setting typically uses the DH1 reference room environment by default. Those that offer multiple Dolby Headphone settings will allow the listener to select among its available choices.

It seems to me that only allowing the consumer processing with DH1 would be a crime.
