Well I had my car looked at today by a mechanic and it's going to cost less to fix than I anticipated, so I will be getting some Alpha Pads here in the next week or two :D

The Alphas just look so comfy though, and they're pretty thick. I'm buying for comfort, and I wouldn't mind the headband clamping a little tighter to my head, sometimes I don't even want to look down or they might fall off. I don't like that a bit.

Alphas are the bomb for comfort and will help with the clamp.

how are the Lawtons for clamp, any increases at all

Yay I got a bite on the HifiFlight Kit pb2 today, I need a new balanced amp for the d2k, as my pb1 is stuck on high gain! Huzzah!

Really they add very little clamp to speak of, they are just really a firmer and slightly thicker stock Denon pad.  I like them on my D7000.

well I'm going to attempt to get a pb2 this week... for around $275 or so dollars... meaning I'm going to wait on the d2k mods, as I really need a balanced amp for my D2k [as the pb1 has to much gain and it STUCK in high gain, hence buy a pb2 upgrade my amp and get one that works in low gain lol]

that said we'll see how my seller responds... he was in China wanting $260+ shipping comes with the HiFilight kit and adapter, meaing roughly around $300 for the whole thing, and $300 is a touch out of my budget atm... hoping I can get it all for $275 without the $40 adapter

So the D2k is back... sounds nice enough DEFINATLY needs some mods, reminds me of the w1000x beofre it was modded, bass wise. But best of all the sub bass is there :D can't wait to plug it into my balanced amp at home!

It is kinda lose, but no more so than my W1000x, so I can live with that

and ANY pad that is BIGGER will increase clamp, so I can imagine the Lawtons may increase the clamp force a smidge, not expecting miracles at this point

still I might see if Mark will put on some Alpha Pads while he's doing my mods >:3

as 3 week waiting period for his pads to come in is assinine

With the Vali they are good :D smile on my face good... the NFb 10ES2... blank stare of shock good :O

they are doing REALLY nice with Core n Bass too! I'm enjoying these more than the HE 400 tbh

I can Get Alpha's soon... but I might save for the FUll Lawton Pads + inner mods

Useing my D2k with any of my Balanced Amps Balanced outputs get's my Mono, when connected to both my pb1 and NFB 10ES2 in the 4pin XLR out and 6pin hiRose output the D2k operates in mono sound, my Dt 880 runs in balanced stero on both amps using the same out puts and adapters

The D2k with a 4pin xlr to SE adapter out of the SE output of both amps runs in stero! That being said... I've just sold my Vali... for good to pay for an ENTIRE recable of my D2k... hopefully a new hard re wired cable will fix theese darn cable issues

I'm very upset about this too because balanced out of BOTH amps the sound is KILLER but... oh wait it's MONO! THe SE on both amps lacks the authority and sound stage depth as the balanced outs... ut the SE run in STERO MODE and have well more width because it's STERO MODE

that said, going to get the WHOLE kit bang and ka boodle for my D2k, recable and then off to Lawton Audio for a Partial Mod and the installion of the Lawton Pads, the stock pads clamp just fine imo

but this is... 12/13 weeks now and while I have a perfectly working SE D2k... I still don't have it running balanced like what I paid $39 to have

Still even in SE it does sound very good! I am a happy camper at this point :D

just a little irrated at all the time and money I've had to throw into this thing... it'll be about $750 when all is said and done... and while I could save maybe $100 doing some of the work my self... I'm to frusrated with the headphone and too busy to even want to attempt it. I'd rather pay the Ca$h and be done with it q.q

So I'm selling the Vali and putting that money to getting all the work on my D2k finished. I've got enough from the Sale to install everything my self, and have a little left over.

that said, my last session with the Vali and D2k reveals the two are a nice pair... this EDM is HARD pumpin! Ofc SE out xD

Well, someone asked me to black out their D2K. It wasn't fun the first time, but now I know exactly how to take them apart so it may be a little easier this time around. They want the Mini XLR pigtails as well. I'm starting a fad! Haha

Question...if I didn't really care for the sound of the original D2000, is it worth it to go forward with a Lawton Mod? Does the tuning change and wood cups change the sound THAT much (I won't bother with the cable change)?

The D2000 really isn't my thing at all. The bass is deep, but too loose, the mids are too recessed and the highs are annoyingly sibilant. It's never a pleasant experience with them. I bought them awhile ago (they were my first real high end headphone) and just debating selling them or trying to salvage them.
