I've been a bit of a detail nut ever since I listened to OK Computer a thousand times. I love discovering things I've never heard in recordings I've listened to a thousand times, nothing adds longevity like that does. It was this that sent me on a journey to find good headphones and a willingness to pay 150$ or so.

It was Bose that I saw first, they being some of the most visible sound products. So I went in to listen, and compared to my fifty dollar MDR 300s, they were great. They were then purchased.

I looked on Amazon and Epinions for reviews, and found almost exclusively glowing praise.

Fortunately I'm also a review hound, and I searched on and on for reviews, coming upon headwize and, from there, head-fi. I looked on and figured, "well, they're just bitter that Bose sells so well when other companys don't have that kind of cash and are more underground." All the same, I came upon one intriguing product: the Etymotic ER-6.

Detail, detail, they all said. So I just had to try them. Ordered them from Headroom, and now they are mine. Thank god for Bose's satisfaction guarantee, because they get their headphones back now.

These Etys are incredible, so just thanks, and count another strike against Bose.

I don't think I will be getting the ER-4s for some time, at least until I'm in college or have my own job and nobody can find out I payed $259 on a pair of headphones.

A man can dream though. A man can dream...

Edit: I misspelled man.
Edit: Also, I have a job, which is how I payed for the phones, just that people are knowlegable about how my money is spent.

Do yourself a favor and DO_NOT listen to the ER4s.. Yes, they are that good.

I gave my girlfriend my ER6s, and I had her listen to the ER4s briefly. I could not get them back from her.. They were that much better!

If detail is king, the ER6s sound rather muffled and distant, whereas the ER4 sounds like your're right in the stage, next to the artist.

As of yet, I can't really imagine a set of headphones sounding better than the ER-6s, and I would indeed prefer that it stay that way. For at least a while, the ER-4s will not enter these ears.

Well, one day down. It took a lot of movement to get the seal, and I had to take them out and in quite a few times, so by the end, with the combination of the discovery of all the great new sounds and the fullness of "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots," and the somewhat agonizing pain of my poor ears, I was pretty close to tears. But in a somewhat good way.

And thank you all for the welcome. Much appreciated.
