What do you think is the better system for RPG gaming? I'd say maybe 70% of my games will be RPGs but, I'll also play sports, platformers, and shooters. I'm kind of torn between the two cause both have great final fantasy games.

more features
is awsome
ds sucks
well not really, but compared to psp it does.

this is my thread! lol I had both. psp was firmware hacked and DS had a flash cart for slot 1. played homebrew and games all I wanted. I recently made the decision to completely stop playing video games becuase I felt that I could be doing some more productive things in my life. I would kick ass at patapon but my real life would kinda suffer cuase of it lol.

for your main question: RPGs = DS 100 percent. the remade final fantasies and other ones from square are awesome and very enjoyable. I was playing final fantasy 12 revenant wings prior to selling it. was having a blast. do not get me wrong the psp has some awesome games too. patapon and loco roco are good enough reasons to buy not to mention lumanes, dj max portable one and two, wipeout pure and pulse, lots of awesome games to go around HOWEVER on the rpg front? nope its kinda crap. I mean if you count the emulation possiblities than its a great rpg machine. psx and snes have some great rpgs and you can play them on it if you hack it.

but I have one final nail for that coffin: YouTube - Chrono Trigger DS - Trailer (07-06-2008)
now go buy that DS!!!

i would say the ds. like rei yano, i own both and with a slot one card as well.

the psp has a lot of generic rpg's. ones that seem like copies of the first final fantasy. there are a few good ones like the FFT remake and D'arc, but i feel that the DS has a better selection of RPG's.

jesus, gautam has gotten a lot of posts in just a few months.

If you have the money then get them both. Both the ds and psp have amazing rpgs. Since both of them had the final fantasy series I don't know why you would wanna choose one over the other.

If you really want just one of them then I'd suggest getting a psp first, then you could sell it (if you don't like it) and spend the money to get a ds.

well uh.. the Chrono Trigger DS version is just a lame port with a tiny bit of extra features. and this whole time I thought it was a remake, with all new artwork, graphics, modernized and improved. but no.

Not worth buying imo, you can emulate it or be cool like me and play it on the original cart on SNES. =p

oh well, chrono cross was a better game anyway.

I haven't used the PSP and not sure what rpgs it has. But I'm going to ignore that and say DS for sure. I'll give you some reasons:
FF3
FF4
Chrono Trigger (coming)

3 of the greatest RPGs made should be reason enough.
You can also play GBA with a slot 2 flash cart which means FF6 as well.

I wouldn't want a remake of CT for DS, it's pretty perfect to begin with. Not sure if I will buy it, I'll probably cave eventually, but it'd be good to have on the DS to play on the go. Emulation is good on PC, but it is a notoriously hard game to emulate and I don't think the DS emus handle it well (last I checked at least).

I disagree

in order for the DS to have the 3 greatest RPGs ever made it would need to have

planescape torment
fallout
baldur's gate 2

in b4 pc rpg fanbois vs console rpg fanbois lol

well the psp does have the ff series however they do not have the total remakes like ff3 and ff4. not to mention the spinoffs like ff 12 revenant wings, ff crystal chronicles, ff tactics A2, etc.

also zelda phantom hour glass, front mission, magical starsign, some of namco's tales of series, tales of hearts, dragon quest IX, a ton of castlevania love, the world ends with you, etrian odyssey one and two, summon night..... I can go on really. I could go on for a while. the ds is THEE rpg source for console gamers. if you are into pc rpgs like fallout or bualder's gate then none of these systems would please you much. I actually enjoyed my psp more than my ds. patapon was my last game and that game was one of the better games I have ever played in my life. but the topic is based on rpg availablity. the psp fails hard on in this area. a couple of ports only really. d'arc was awesome though. psp has three rpgs goin for it. ff crisiscore, jaenne d'arc, and tales of the world.

Neither. I have both systems, and there really aren't that many good "new" rpgs. The DS has a couple good ports (BoFII, FFVI) and the PSP is really only good for emulating older systems. (In regards to rpgs) It's got good strategy titles though.

I've played most of those, and the rpgs listed really aren't that good.

I'm kind of leaning towards the PSP now, because of it's ability to emulate older games well. Is it risky at all or expensive? I've seen some youtube videos of it playing Playstation 1 ROMs as well, and thats a massive library of RPGs. Plus, it seems to have some good games going for it as well as good non-rpg games, metal gear, god of war and such. Is it risky at all or expensive?
