hello all, i need recommendations on a suitable amp that i can get to pair with an upcoming dt880. my budget is ~$200, so no corda-ha2 for me..

this amp will be used primarily at home.

have used the search function here but have either come up with results that i cant use or results that have no relevance to my particular headphone. i hear all sorts of talk about 'correct voltages' for the different headphones and i'm confused. what's that all about?

anyway, i'm new to the forum and it's great being here! have spent days trawling the forum and have certainly learnt more about headphones and headphone amps in the last week or so than i have in the rest of my entire life.

oh, one more question. is there any accepted way of burning a headphone in? so far i've found about 6 or 7 different ways, each with varying combinations of music volume, type and duration.

thanks in advance!

just go to page 2.... there's a 64 reply discussion we just had 2 weeks ago about what amps work well w/DT880...

considering how your budget is around 200 dollars, may I suggest the Meta42..... it's a great sounding amp that ranges in price between about 100$ to over 300$, depending on how much you're willing to drop.

for about 200 dollars, you can get yourself quite a monster of a meta42.

if you don't know what the meta42 is, there are TONS of posts around here talking about it. Just look around a bit.

I second the META42 recommendation. I had a META in that price range before I got my HA-2; it wasn't as good as the Corda, but it was probably a better value for the money (i.e. the Corda isn't 3x better even though it costs 3x as much). I got my META built by JMT and I highly recommend him - send him a PM!

thanks aim9x for the heads up.

anyway, i think asking someone to build a meta42 is out of the question.

due to a lack of talent in this aspect where i live, someone would have to build one, then ship it over across the globe to me. i doubt it'll come in one piece.

in that case, about all i can say is go to the DT880 page i mentioned earlier, sorry. I haven't had enough experience with commercial amps to give you a proper recommendation.

i think you're too scared. just ask whoever builds it to pad the pack really well. a head-fier sent me an EMP from singapore and it went out smooth.
