I like my TDK Mojo for the most part, however it appears that the original TDK Mojo (the black one) has problems with the popular LAME codec. I've experienced this myself on some downloaded music. Although the songs play fine on WinAmp, when burned to disc and played on the Mojo I get distortions in the music. This model does not have upgradeable firmware unfortunately.

My question is... does anyone know if the follow up model TDK Mojo 620 (the blue and silver one) still suffers from this problem? It seems like pretty much the same machine on the outside, albeit with a remote. It does not have updateable firmware either, however.

The 620s can be found for a relatively reasonable price on Ebay. If the LAME codec issue has been resolved with this model, I would be inclined to upgrade from my black Mojo since I've come to appreciate the sound quality on this unit after trying several other units. If the sound quality is the same or better, however.

The newest Mojo, the 860 (the silver one), does have upgradeable firmware. This model seems like a total redesign. Does anyone have one of these? If so, is the sound quality (line-out) the same or better previous model Mojos?

Finally, can onyone offer a good comparison of the sound quality of the original TDK Mojo (line-out) to the IRiver SlimX?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Glenn

Plus,
According to Havin (the original maker, that model is firmware upgradable. It is called 150E on their site http://www.exonion.com/exonion_eng/pr_150.htm

I know that the first generation Exonions had some problems with Lame encoder (ticks in the music). Don't know about the newer models.

Goodluck!
