DIY power supply

Hello,

Yes, Car Audio is rated with power. Unfortunately, the mother nature love irony. Higher and higher power comes with higher noise level. And, personally, I don't want to eat/listen more low quality food/sounds just because I have more.

After all, power has to come from somewhere and car batteries are not that ... all mighty.

I would build LM3886 and other GainClone and power car audio with some switching power supply at mildly higher voltage. I think it sounds decent.

Tomo One!

P.S. I am not Mr. Underson. I am Tomo! (You know the train station fight. That was so rediculous; it was awesome. Don't spoil but tell me details. )

I think about 250-300 watts would be good for car audio. Enough so you can blow things away, but not so loud as to distort. Besides, IMO, a car engine is music on it's own

Crutchfield sells .5 and 1 farad capacitors to solve that problem. Quite expensive, though. I'd much sooner just get one from Mouser or something. What really cracks me up is their "Deluxe" model that has a LED display on top with the current voltage. What does it matter? And when are you going to be digging through your audio cables and equipment while listening to music?!

Can you imagine the directions on a 1F car audio cap?
"Make SURE you have the polarity correct"

Okay, all done... let's fire it up and see how it sounds!

1 farad would be fun...

I can well imagine Joe Sixpack hooking it up to power his duh!-m-bass subs, and hooking it up wrong. I wonder how much of the car it would take out with it?

Ah yes, if you think 1 farad is insane... http://www.eskimo.com/~billb/amateur/capexpt.html
