iPod battery drainage question

i just got a 10 gig 2nd gen model last night at Best Buy, and everything seems fine except for a strange battery display. it constantly fluctuates being full or with three bars to completely empty (no bars). i dunno if it displays no bars if it's scanning the harddrive or something like that, but i've never experienced this on my old original 5 gig. should i be concerned? help!

No such problem on mine *Knock on Wood* but I do notice considerable drain while loading files on an unpowered firewire slot.

This usually happens. If you are not on the latest firmware, then updating to it will probably get rid of the bar jumping.

makes sense to me that you would use more power loading files than playing them.

i just checked my ipod and its running 1.2.1 firmware. i'm not sure what the newest one is, i think it's 1.2.6? anyway... i'm going to the apple store tomorrow night to see if someone can help me update the firmware.

there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the battery life, but its very unsettling to see the bar suddenly jump from three bars to none. my old 5 gig is running 1.1 and i've had no problems whatsoever with that firmware.

OT but the same thing happens with my IMP-150... I wonder if there is a connection?

What's your OS? 1.2.1 is several firmware editions back. At least on the Mac side. Mine didn't get straightened out until 1.2.6.
