How about k701 with the O2+Odac?

I have heard that the M-stage and O2 are quite competitive among each other.

I was going to use that as my initial set-up, but I read that the 3.5mm is rated to 2,000 inserts; link. Which can be solved with an extension, but I wanted a quality amp so I'm going balls to the wall and buying the Matrix M-stage. Unless I hear other wise.

Impressions on the not burned, un amped k701 much clearer and has an awesome soundstage compared to my HD 280 pro. Also, aesthetically pleasing, I get eye-gasms just looking at it and when I wear it i get ear-gasms.

I haven't heard the O2, but I have owned the Magni and apparently they are very similar. I'd go for the M-stage. It complements the K701's better. Bigger soundstage, more refined and darker sounding. Not as fast or sharp as the powerful Magni, but the K701's are anything but slow anyways.

O2 + K 701 sounds fine to me. I haven't tried the M-Stage though.

Ottawa, Canada resident here. Been trying to get my hands on a pair of K701's for a while to no avail so far. It's been rough. Most places don't ship here, and if they do, they're ridiculously expensive. I see a bunch of old posts selling for so cheap nearby, makes my heart die. Found one on Kijiji, but haven't replied yet, I'm thinking it was sold already.

Welcome to Head-Fi and sorry about your wallet! tongue_smile.gif

Yeah I've heard getting headphones in Canada is pretty tough with the taxes/shipping and whatnot. :/

Maybe you can check the For Sale section here if you don't mind used headphones:

Nice Mio avatar by the way. ;)

I purchased my K 701's from Headphones.com for $300 USD with a 15% discount. I'm not sure if they ship to Canada and how much it would cost, but you can send a PM to fellow Head-Fier DavidMahler for a quick answer.

Well, it isn't so much the money as much as the money I'd like to spend. 200 is about where I'm at, but I see it for 350+ some places. I was looking at the for sale section, cheapest ones don't ship here. Figures. I posted a bunch of want ads, but it's 3am here.

Thanks, couldn't think of anything headphone related besides that really.

I'm sure I can find it used for cheaper, but I don't know if my patience can keep up.

I finally got my hands on the older K701 version (one's with the 7 bumps) on behalf of kx1 of these forums. Have been listening to them through my newly acquired M&M set and they sound great! I can see why some people don't find them to their taste however, but I'm thoroughly happy with my purchase ^^

Nice! How is the comfort on those K 701's? The 7-bump version has a bump right in the middle of the headband, so I'm assuming that was the source of the complaints.

I haven't had any problems with comfort, if anything the headphones keep slipping :P I was listening to them for hours today and yesterday and no problems.

Does the old K701 have any sonic differences with the newer 8-bump version?

I'm personally not sure since these are the first pair I got, but from the impressions in the thread (yes I've been lurking and read quite a bit of this thread wink.gif ) there are definitely differences. I'll let someone whose listened to both make comments though.

From what I've gathered, the newer K 701 sounds identical to the Q 701, which is slightly more warmer-sounding than the K 702 from when I compared the two next to each other. My newer K 701 sounds more like the Q's from memory, but that's from memory.

This can easily be seen in some more recent frequency response graphs (InnerFidelity or Goldenears). wink.gif

Right now I have the HE-400 and HD600 and I'm wanting to get a pair of the K701's next but I want to know if the newer K701's sound like the Q701's as I hear they have a bit more warmer sound than the original K701.  I know they're not warm like the HD600 or 650 and that's fine but I don't want them to have to dry or analytical of a sound.
