My parents have a pair of old(read: not the new ones) Infinity RS4b's and the foam on the woofers has almost completely rotted away. I know this may sound stupid but I can't figure out what the actual size of the speaker is so I can order foam kits for them. There are two woofers per speaker(and two tweeters) and they appear to be 6 1/2" but if I measure them another way they could be 8". Could someone tell me the proper way to measure my speakers? Also, I am going to order the foam kits from MCMelectronics on reccomendation from a friend, Does anyone have experience with thier foam kits? other suggestions of where to get foam kits? Thanks for the help folks.

Generally, speaker manufacturers use the outer diameter of entire woofer (including the mounting ring) to state the size of the driver -- sounds more impressive! I would guess that the speakers you refer to have 8" woofers.

However, I would confirm this with your vendor of the refoaming kit. I had a friend who had some old classic KLH speakers in need of refoaming, and the place he contacted (don't remember the name now, got their ad out of old "Stereo Review" mag -- this was nearly ten years ago

) had a database and was able to send him the proper kit. Worked very well, and looked pretty professional when he finished too! Good luck!

I was going to refoam a pair of JBL L112's (they have 12" woofers) a couple of years ago. I ordered a kit to do it. Unfortunately it wasn't just a matter of gluing the new foam in, the instructions said to either shim the drivers in some manner or put a 40 hz sinewave through them while you are doing the refaoaming. I couldn't figure out how to make the shims and didn't have a sine wave generator. I finally got them refoamed professionally and it only cost $70. I called all the stereo places in the phone book for San Diego. Finally found a place that sold a lot of PA system type speakers and monitors for bands, not a high end audio store, that did that kind of work. Living in a large town like Atlanta, you might be able to find a place to do it.
You may have already provided for shimming, but if not, just a suggestion.

Thanks for the replies guys, but I mainly need help measuring these drivers correctly, so I order the right foam kit. I would also like some suggestions as to other places that might sell higher quality foam kits. Again, thanks so much.
