I'm searching for some studio monitors for 700-800 euro's a pair. And I've heard you get more bang for the buck with DIY speaker kits and it's much easier than finding al the parts together. So do you guys have any experience with DIY kits and can you recoment me some kits? And how do they compare to the normal speaker monitors?

It does help to read a lot on some forums about speaker building. Pretty simple things you can do during a build (that often cost nothing) sometimes offer pretty noticable improvements. And you shouldn't be mistaken about the amount of work: it took me 3 months to rebuild my speakers.

But the reward is very real: the price range for finished speakers is usually 5-6x the parts price, with some brands below and several brands well above that figure. Don't forget to scale your amp and source to the value of your speakers.
