It's not how long it is, but what you do with it

I asked something related in the portable forum a while back, but never got a decent answer. I know this is a very common problem, so let me post a similar question here...

For those that use headphones with longish cords, how do you handle extra length when going portable? Sennheiser includes a cheap, but decent cord wrapper with belt clip on some of their lower models (it's the best thing about the 202). From
this HeadWize article it looks like Radio Shack once sold something similar.

At the bottom end there's always the twist tie then in the pocket method. And cheap/discontinued cell phones cases/belt clips are an option (I have one labeled A&TT).

But there has to be a more elegant solution. It's such a common problem. Seems there'd have to be a third party answer (no matter what it was originally made for) somewhere out there. So what is it? What do you use to carry that thing around?

The twist tie and in-pocket methods don't work for you? In my mind, the biggest problem with extra cord is the weight swinging around (especially on my V6...I might as well have an in-line cmoy hanging there). Unless you can attach it somewhere, like the cell phone holder or a big pocket, I don't think you're going to find a better answer.

Last resort, replace the cord.

Thanks for the comment. I actually found the v6's cord to be nearly perfect for my portable use (cord long, but coiled keeps it close, weight is tolerable and doesn't pull at the phones), which is one of the reasons I'm considering picking one back up (use to have a pair). Phones I currently have are sr-80's and mdr-cd570's, which while not impossible, are difficult to replace the cords, especially if needing longer cords for when used at home. The garbage twist tie works on a functional level (mostly, you lose a pocket), but looking for something a little more elegant (even the Senn freebie that had to cost about 9 cents to mass produce works better). Please, though, keep the suggestions coming.

No, it's all an optical illusion.

Well low and behold Radio Shack still carries the Cable Management Case listed in the HeadWize article (previous store said they didn't). I still can't find it on their online catalog, but they were able to in the store. What's better is they're priced at 50 cents right now. So if any of you are looking for a solution to this problem, the item number is 43-2011. Cord shots are a little tight (I think they're marketed for telephone cords now), but that can be fixed easily.
