What is the most expensive headphone amp you can buy in 2003?

As you know, after the Manley adventure (…), I’m waiting (for another time) my LAST headphone amp. I know what I’m doing, now. I had the first exemplar of Angstrom Research that sound simply IMPRESSIVE. I sold it to Jatinder (that loves this monster a lot… a lot) I think he prefers even to his Orpheus system, (he sold his HP-4) but he is too much busy at work, for writing something about… (unfortunately…).
Now Angstrom Research is building the LAST WORD in headphone amp: I’ll pay it for a big amount with the Manley sale and the money I recieved from Jatinder. The new two boxes amp will be around 12K! (I think).

The details I know at this moment are:

Hand made silver amorphous output transformers (40ohm) (around 1000$ each)

Signal tubes: WE 437A (around 350$ each)

Penny & Giles pot (800$)

I think about 5-6K only for premium parts's cost

I think to have the amp at the end of May…

Best!
Nicola

Have you actually heard that amp yourself? You know, actively pimping something based on a single account of a person whose hearing tells him that mp3 sounds pretty much the same as vinyl makes baby jesus cry.

Consider me chastised for speaking out on behalf of the amp. I have not heard it yet, but have come to respect Hirsch's opinion greatly. I usually try to avoid recommending a component I've never heard, but in this case they are so new and so cheap that I felt that they would be worth it, and better than their competitors' products.

It certainly is new, but at $900 it is hardly cheap. Saying `Giant Killer`, `devestate its competition`, `will blow anything else anywhere near it's price point away`, or `would be worth it, and better than their competitors' products` about rather expensive products which are not even yet released much less heard by you is not very smart. Why are you so eager to join the ranks of hype machines of Head-Fi when one is too many?

I already apologized in my last post, no need to beat a dead horse here.
