Would you pay $100 or so for a REALLY good adapter (like a 1/4 to 1/8 inch adapter or whatever)?

I am wondering the impact of "an adapter" on the signal. This is because I am thinking of buying an aftermarket HD600 cable, which tend to have 1/4 plugs, though my amp has a 1/8 output.

Really, adaptors do make a quality difference, but it's nothing significant, certaintly not worth 100 bucks

Only if it were some sort of adapter cable that improved sound quality. If it were just a 1/4" adapter or something, I would pass.

I'd rather throw $100 toward a pair of good IC's... So no, I'd pass..

I didn't even detect much (if any) difference

On a higher end system there might be more obvious difference to detect that makes it more worthwhile. For example, the original Corda HA-1 only had mini-plugs, and I wouldn't want to use Radioshack with it considering the price of the amp. For a portable setup, however, I agree that the Radioshack one is probably fine.

With the HD600, I think it would be worth the money to get the Grado adapter, but that's just me.

$100 on a 3.5 > 6mm adapter

That's must rank highly in the hifi jewelery stakes

And I thought I was being extravagant in buying WBT spades

Seriously though, do companies actually manufacture them at that price range or was that just a rhetorical question?

Well gee, I don't know you guys.. An 8" adapter is almost as long as some ICs...
