mlarn, did you ever get your Octavart working, in the end?

I ended up returning it. I went back and forth about getting it fixed but in the end just decided to send it back. Its a shame, because I got really excited reading all these great reviews.
Anybody compared this to the Travagan Red?

A few days ago I bought an Octavart model “the one” (very light used)

If I connect my Iriver H140 via RCA there’s no problem, but via mini-toslink (optical) it dont works

Could you help me?

The Octavart is an optical DAC+Amp?

Thanks a lot

Regards

Problem solved. The optical line out in my Iriver H140 (Rockbox) was not turn on. Now it works fine
I'm very happy

I received a test unit from Fang of Head-Direct a few months back. It continues to amaze me, it sounds so good for the price that I honestly can not think of another unit out there doing as much and so well for as little money.

If any of you get a new unit I would be interested in your impressions. To me you will not be able to find a similar product specially at its low price. I have way too many dacs, amps, etc. and every time I think I should sell it I listen ot it and change my mind.

I wish Fang still sold it.

Not only because of the unit but because Head-Direct has been a great company to buy from.

Fang discontinued this amp due to the many clones that were made available at lesser prices thru various ebay dealers, etc.

He feels that the new EF1 is a better amp for a comparable price, although it lacks the DAC circuitry. After comparing both, I tend to agree with him.

Over all, the EF1 is better balanced and smoother. The O1-DAC/Octavart does, however, produce more power to drive phones such as the AKG340s.

The only problem with the EF1 is that it has a tube in it, which makes it a yucky prospect for me.

I find it curious that there would be clones of such a little known amp as the O1. Is there any proof of that? I wonder if this amp is legitimate:

I am very pleased to read this review. I have been looking for an amp/DAC that will improve on my current CD player/integrated amp for headphone listening without breaking the bank. Looks like I have found it. Next paycheck, I am ordering one of these!

After reading through this thread I was ready to order until I got to this post. Does that mean that this auction is likely a knock off?

The amp isn't on Head-Direct.com anymore. It's strange that he's discontinued it after such a positive response. Even if there are knock offs most people would be buying it for the quality so would be sure to get the real thing.

Edit: I've been lurking all day trying to find an an amp as well received as this in a similar price range but can't. Can anbody suggest a similar DAC+Amp with the same qualities - solid date with a detailed and neutral that would be good for use with some SA5000s?
