Headphoneus Supremus
Yup, I just joined team prettycan. Yeah, I know I missed the big band-wagon, but what the heck.
These things are absolutely gorgeous! I can't resist touching the beautiful blue finish (yes, I do have a life, thanks). What pictures don't show is that the paint is some of that directional stuff that is a different color, depending on the viewing angle. Soft blue transitions to deep purple. The cord is even pretty, appearing black at first, but turning royal blue under the right lighting (a lumelids 1 w LED, in this case).
They sound great, as long as I equalize the snot out of them. Otherwise they have a nasal sound, with the characteristic (for AT cans that I have heard) upward tilt to the midrange up to 2 khz, then a step down to shelved highs. Very similar response to the W2002. Bass is pitiful, but that may improve since they look brand new (Adam obviously takes care of his gear). Bass rolls off at 100hz and is about -13 db by 20hz. Not horrible by headphone standards, but remember, I am a bass snob after all
I will update, and will post eq curves if anybody is interested. I have been using the Behringer eq/rta with the Behringer test mic. I just ship the response curve over to the eq side and response gets nice and flat. I typically tweak this curve somewhat since there can be some fairly large swings up in the HF range. I also don't really want ruler flat response, since it makes everything sound like the DT931s, so I back off much of the adjustment by half. Results are wonderful. If not, more tweaking will get me there!
2 things puzzle me at the moment:
1) if these cans were intended for the home market only, why are all of the markings in english?
2) Why did they voice them as nasalcans? I wonder if we are seeing the head engineer's sound preferences here.
