Hanafuda; I have a picture in my signature, but I'm not sure if it's close enough for you to really see the pads. No modifications necessary though, they just fit on like the stock ES7 pads and are much more comfortable.

Thank you for the pic. I'm close to ordering the pads mentioned because of the replies in this thread. Would you say it's worth the time/money to do this?

Hi Everyone,

I have been looking at ESW9s, ES7s and WS70s for some time and am still unsure which ones to buy.

I am using the headphones outside while walking to work in a place with a lot of rain (always wearing them under a hood)

I am a bit hesitant to buy ESW9s even though they sound great but the weather conditions might not be too good for wood (high humidity).

I was wondering if anyone has both ES7s and WS70s and can tell me which ones are better? I listen to all genres of music starting with classical and ending with heavy metal.

Anyone can compare these two for me?

Thanks in advance,
Jack

J&R is offering "Audio Technica ATH-ES7-BK Portable Headphones - Black" for $59 with free shipping as the Deal of the Day. However they're temporarily out of stock. Would they try honor the sales price for people ordering today?

Anyone know where to get the ES7's white? Seems like the black ones are relatively easy to procure around the 60 dollar mark but I can't seem to find any White ones below $100...

I have a question, I currently have the m50s, Love them!! But i can't find myself to wear this anywhere in public or anything.. so would the es7 basically be a portable version of the m50's? I love everything about the m50s, perfect sound, perfect closed headphones, perfect isolation. Are the es7 similar to this isolation, sound and everything of the m50? If it's basically the same i'm gonna get a es7 and sell my m50s.

I recall reading that the white ES7s were being phased out. That may account for why you're having difficulty finding it.

In general, you'd be hard pressed to find two different sets of headphones, with different form factors and materials, that are "basically the same." The ATH-M50 carries some of the flavor of the ATH-ES7, I suppose, but the ES7 is more colored, with prominent but less defined, less textured bass, a more aggressive midrange, and peakier highs. While they're still a set of portable cans I enjoy, I consider the ES7 a step down, sonically, from the more detailed M50. Many also find the ES7 to be somewhat uncomfortable (although you can adjust how strongly they clamp with some careful bending of the headband), and they are only barely isolating, despite being closed-backed, so they're not that great for noisy environments.

It's possible the Sennheiser HD 25 (not the HD 25-SP) might be closer to what you desire: a supraaural design with good isolation and sound quality (though I still find them more sibilant than the M50), but perhaps above your price range.

Maybe you should look more closely at WS70s which is supposed to have more bass than ES7s and be a bit of a step up from them.

^ i agree with that statement, the detail is not as good, and i would say the isolation is not top notch. it is great in isolation in the sense that other people cannot hear your music, but you can still hear things around you. the reason i kept my es7 is that it is a decent all rounder while being greatly portable and i love the mirror cup finish.

Thanks for the help guys, the only reason i thought to switching to es7 from my m50s is because of that deal for the $60 es7s that's going on right now. I don't want to make a switch and regret it because i know it's hard downgrading, especially on sound. But if the difference isn't too much then i might think about getting it to sacrifice sound for some more portability and public use

Well, I'm sure you could always jump on the deal now, see how you like them, and resell them around the same price afterward if they don't meet your expectations.

Mine just came in the mail from buy.com
Its like... 102 ship/hand and tax included,
But a quick google search gives you some great buy.com coupons that you can use to push the price down... :]
(These are white ones)

I feel like the white ones are nicer anyway... I'm willing to shell out the extra cash..
