I am currently the owner of a iPod Video (Gen 5) and so far have been stuck to using the iPod buds, ew...Anyways, they didn't last long, the rubber thingy around them started peeling of for some reason....And it was really ridiculous how it forced me to put the volume like half way just to actually hear the music..Booo

But right now I am using:

Green colored ones...

Yeeeah...

But oh goody me, my love for music have come quite a bit slow to go full force...And now i have started falling in love with the "smart" standards like sticking to 320kbps and up...And lucky me, now I am obsessed with having everything in .FLAC

I don't use Rockbox, I just convert the .FLAC to .wav, so there is no loss and the ipod can play it...

But with flac, I am noticing that even my car stereo plays them far better then my headphones...A tad sad...

So I am in the need of new pair of headphones....Not really having much good experience with buds, so no to that... Over the ear is also annoying, so no to that either... The headset once, with the big cans, is also a no no because I still want to be portable with the ipod and not have huge headphones sticking out of my jeans...

So I have been having my eye on in-ear ones...But I don't really want to jump and shell out more than $200 all that fast, maybe in a few years when I can afford...say better speakers for my computer, then I will tag along with custom in-ears and what not...So I am holding that of after college and a few years, when bigger money starts coming in...

I am not really specific with my type of music, so I can't really choose between the ones that have specifics like "if you listen to rock, get these" I just want once that sound great with everything...

And of course, still keeping a reasonably cheap price...but at the same time sounding amazing...

No ebay/auctions, I just want to buy direct without any hassle..lol

Also please try to avoid replying with just mentioning a brand...Because, yes I know UE are amazing, but that doesn't mean I can tell the products they have apart...I am a noob.

How is that any different then...FLAC or WAV for that matter?

It is different than wav in the sense that it takes up less space

That was a worthless post.

Anyway, Apple Lossless Codec (ALAC) is used because it takes up less space than a .WAV file, and is supposedly more efficient with iPods, which hopefully is the case since it is under Apple's name.

Try looking at either the Koss KSC75 or Yuin PK2 for a start; I would never recommend the UE super.fi 5 Pro because the way it is tuned absolutely destroys any music that goes through it. I still remember when I opened the package in the car, stuck them in my ears, and a minute later, thought: "This is it?"

I looked up the ones you recommend, but both are the styles I actually am trying to avoid...The over ear ones and the simply buds ones...

You don't want to spend $200, so what IS your budget?

I was also going to recommend the Super.Fi 5 Pros, but they are ~$190 now. The week before Christmas, they were only $140 from Amazon

I ended up buying some Super FreQs (search this forum for "freq"). I should be getting them Wednesday. If $200 is your budget, then they meet that criteria

Argh, you people!

Okay....I don't want spend a lot of money on a pair of "in-ear" headphones.. Something like $100-$200 is a bit too high, but if they are worth it then I will probably go for them..... Basically I want to stay under $200, or even better closer to $100...I just want quality ones, without having to pay $500 or $1000...Ikd... $7.15/hour....That like 3 months pay...lol

So what do you want? SF5 Pro were recommended because it is ~$150 and well worth it. It has nice strong bass and good treble. It definitely beats any of those cheaper IEMs in terms of dynamic range and sound quality in general. Some people complain that it's too colored or something, but in general they are seen as a great set of IEMs to listen to rock music from. Many also feel that SF5 Pro serve well as all around IEMs, myself included.

About people bashing it, for any headphone there are people that really don't like it. Why not listen to it and decide for yourself?
