I was just wondering, what is the normal lifespan of headphones? After how much time does the sound quality start to drop?

Sound quality decrease with age? Never happened to me. Usually my headphones broke somehow before that could happen.

well if its like regular speakers, with time and usage, the materials will start to degrade and sound quality will drop no?

I think that question is just about impossible to answer since it really depends on what the respective drivers are made of etc. I mean I've read how several people say their E888 have degraded quite significantly in just a year while others have happily used their headphones for more than a decade.

Headphones have a life expectancy limit?

Horrible thought! Surely this is a lifetime investment! (Until you replace them with a pair you like better.) I'm really hoping headphones last for a long, long time.

I'd say there are far too many variables to reach any conclusions. But surely their operating environment and construction play significant roles--assuming they don't die from abuse.
