I've heard that the amp in the M-audio AV40 is actually works as a fairly descent headphone amp (class A/B). Does anyone know if this is true or have any experience? I'm looking at getting these and I have a pair of Grado SR-60s. Thanks in advance.

Was moving around my AV40 today and on a whim I plugged in my HD600. I expected it to be teeny and weak to my surprise it was very good even at par with my 2MOVE. Soundstage is there, bass was good.

Based on the volume pot position the amp is high gain. My DT770 and HD600 already loud at 9:30-10:00. I verified that the speaker and headphone out use the same amp (class A/B) because the bass boost switch behind also affects the headphone out.

Cheers.

just plugged my hd650s into my av40s to check it out... sounds pretty solid I'd say. Definitely a pretty solid amp, should drive the sr-60s with plenty of power to spare.
