Made a mistake, need reccomendations

Well I had a chance to listen to the few phones that my local Audio King has, and by far the best of their selection were the senn hd570's. After hearing their quality, I would love to just plunk down the cash and buy them, but they are open phones, and I want some sealed ones. It would be helpful if you guys who've heard these cans could try and tell me how they compare to the two I mentioned in my first post (dt250's and the hd280's). I'm guessing a a little more bass and a little less everything else.

Boy this would be a lot easier if there were some place around here where i could just listen to some good phones. I don't suppose anybody in the twin cities area knows of some stores I dont?

jerkguy, kelly compared a lot of different closed phones to each other, including the HD280 and the DT250-80.

I seem to have about the same music preferences as you...
Im gonna be ordering the dt-770's and building myself a sexy DIY amp ;D

Only thing left to do is shell out the cash

From what I've heard, the dt-770 is a "fun" can, IE it lacks some of the precision details of something like the hd600's, but it has great bass for rocking out.

Hope this helps

Yeah, I saw that review and found it quite helpful, but you see that I have never heard a good closed phone, so I don't know how they compare. The thing is the only good cans I've heard are those hd570's, so thats the only frame of reference I have. And I hate to ask these questions because I know there's nothing that will truly answer them except listening to the phones. I think I'm just going to get the dt250-80's and be done with it.

Places that carry quality headphones in the Twin Cities (not Audio King) are:

Audio Perfection (7401 Lyndale Ave S) 612-866-0083, great store and owner

Stereoland (2325 Hennepin Ave) 612-377-1772...also a 2nd store in Eden Prairie off Flying Cloud Drive

Great Plains Audio (Minnetonka) 952-545-3232 ...hi end selections but kind of snobs.

Hi-Fi Sound (1226 Harmon Place, Minneapolis) 612-339-6351

Most of these stores carry all models of Grado all the way up to RS 1's, all Senn's, as well as a few other brands but I can't recall. You may get lucky and hit on a Beyer. Did a lot of comparison before I bought but then ended up buying ATh W-100's from Audio Cube.

Good luck and have fun!

You might want to look into audio-technicas. Despite the flavor-of-the-month talk going around, they really are great closed cans.

I've found that my audio-technica A100Ti compares quite favorably with my 580, which clearly betters the 570 in every way but comfort, IMO. (shameless plug)

Thank you, very much. Looks like I've got a busy weekend ahead of me.
