To prevent leakage current of the Electrolytic cap. Add more power reserve for the critical passage when music requires it. Also cut down the ripple on the DC voltage.
At least for now the cap will improve it. If I have the schematic, I can at least see how the op-amp, DAC, and ADC is configured. From there you can replace a-ok parts with higher quality ones. From what I see, the player is already a solidly built cd player. They used a Bur Brown part in the critical chain.
I do now have the service manual in-hand, with full schematics. I was finally able to stop by and pick it up from a friend's house this past week. I will try to get it scanned this weekend. Once it's scanned, I'll make it available to everyone who wants it.
