I have an old pair of AKG K140's with a cable that is partially shredded so that sound comes in and out of the left channel. I'd like to get the cable replaced. Does anyone know of a place in NYC (or perhaps by mail order) that will do that? How much should I expect it to cost?
Also, does anyone know anything about these headphones? It's tough for me to give them an extended listen with the shaky cable.
Below is the only relevant post I've found on them (from Headwize):
The K140 is the predecessor the K141 which is the predecessor to the K141M. The K141M is a 600 ohm headphone with a 98db/mW sensitivity. I expect that the K140 has similar specs, except that the sensitivity rating may be lower. You will need a headphone amp with good voltage drive to get adequate volume. Most headphone outputs on audio receivers should work fine with the K140, but don't even think about using the K141 with a portable.
The entire K140 series is known for its durability (they are, after all, studio phones). The few comments I've seen suggest that the original K140 has the most natural sound quality in the line. If you get the chance to compare the K140 with the current model K140M, please post comments!
