Is there anyone here who is into RC cars or used to be into this hobby? I'm thinking about getting a basic electric RC truck that I can just have a bit of fun with on the weekends, and if it takes my fancy then I could upgrade in the future and maybe get into racing or something.

All this has mainly been provoked by the opening of a hobby shop just down the road and me paying them a visit, getting a demo of these little buggies zipping around and instantly feeling the need to have one myself.

I did try RC planes about a year back, but didn't really get into it too much becasue I didn't like the fact that you needed a really calm day to fly (for a beginner anyway) and I also hated having little breakages all the time, which is all too common when starting out with anything RC that flies.

It seems that RC as a hobby can get more expensive than I originally thought at the top end (though not as expensive as some headphone rigs at the top end). But hey, now I'm tossing up between a $200 RC truck or a $200 pair of IEM's!

So...yeah...call me a big kid haha, but these things seem to be so much fun!

I've done the math. To really get started in RC you're looking at set up costs of $1000. And we're only talking 1/10 electric on-road...

Nitro is in and those suckers can GO!

Or are you more into 1/8? Those trucks are MONSTERS

...esp the 1/8! I think its really fun when you get passed the $500 mark.

I suggest CL for the best mileage out of your money (pun intended) - I've seen quite a few trucks on there and even one or two here in the FS forums!

Happy R/Cing!
