Ski-Fi!

I got sick of skiing when I was 10, so I switched to boarding.

There's some powder!

Just got back from being home for a week up in Wyoming, had a couple good 12"+ days at Grand Targhee, a couple so-so days at Jackson Hole.

I ride Arbor's wide board, the Roundhouse, with Burton CO2 bindings at the moment.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to ski for 3 seasons now because of foot and shoulder problems. The shoulder problems from a dislocation skiing on my first Western trip back in '83. I wiped out on my 4th run on the 1st day.

Because my wife doesn't ski, and skiing near DC is the pits, I usually go on 1 trip out west every year. Because I ski 1 week a year, I decided not own skis. I demo every year. I have my own boots and helmet. I have a nice pair of Strolz boots. My feet are so big that they're the only boots I'm able to get my feet in without a liner. I'm afraid my right foot has changed shape because of a bad break last year, so I need to get new liners. Next year when I go skiing, I need to go somewhere with a shop that's good at making custom liners. I haven't been impressed with the shop here in DC where I bought the boots.

Here's a stock pic of my boots, although mine are red

First year with this stuff. Tons of fun!

Hey man, that's MY skis, too! Love the PE's - such a versatile set. Mounted mine with Tyrolia Mojo 11 bindings. My boots are kinda not-matching, though - Salomon Ellipse 8.0's. Total comfort boots... but not bad-boy enough for the PE.

sweet man!

I just got my PE's this year, put maybe 18 days on them so far ( 7 more days to come very very soon =) ). Only problem with them is that the topcoat gets absolutely destroyed by heavy use. other than though though, they are fantastic ski's. Definitely a head turner in the lift lines hehe.

Definitely. My topcoat is getting the sides chewed up as I use it, especially the back half (I like to use my rear end of a ski to pop my bindings, as opposed to the poles, but sometimes I'm so tired I have no coordination

) but it's holding up reasonably well. I have maybe 25 days on mine so far, from this season and last season, and they're still super-solid.

Love them!

I love skiing too (like most Austrians) but I don't have a large collection or anything. This would be overkill for me as I don't have time to go skiing that often.
This year I tried out my uncles old Kästle 2.07 m long racing skis.
Wow! What a difference! Normally I use much shorter Atomic carving skis and this old pair of Kästles was much faster but it was also much more exhausting to ski with them because of the length. It was a great experience though.

8.0s?! I can step out of that :/. I had to throw out some Marker M1000s earlier in the season because I was coming out too often from skiing too hard. Replaced them with Marker Comp 30s, and now dont have a single problem
smily_headphones1.gif
. I'm afraid though if I do fall real hard that they wont come off at all.

My friend has PE's, but they fall apart easily. Must be due to the fact that they are Chinese made. Volkl Dogen/Ledge's are the same, topsheets chip and delam from tapping them together. Handmade all the way

.

Also, roastpuff, Whistler/Blackcomb is getting signed by Pepsi co./Mtn Dew!!! My shortlist that I sent in a year ago is coming true! First Cannon, now Whistler and Bretton Woods! My guy said that they are going to start opening deals with Timberline, Mt Hood Meadows, and SkiBowl soon, all mountains that I asked for! Might make a trip to BC next year to check the place out, and the new Peak to Peak lift.

1972-72 Scott boots. Still the lightest ski boots ever? Custom fitted and sleek -- but "guaranteed to crack", and a stiff racing boot.

Wonder why advancements in plastic and foam haven't yet produced a custom-fitted, superlight/comfortable/forgiving ski boot? -- or have they?

(No, those weren't mine -- just a photo I came across. I never owned a pair of Scotts, tho' I at least handled a pair and experienced their ultralight weight.)

Strolz are custom fit. There not light weight though. I bought mine here in DC, which was a mistake. Supposedly, if you buy them at a dealer that has the full line up, the shell can even be customized without heating

Oh pish. I'm nowhere near a high-performance skier, though I am getting better, and the Salomon Ellipse 8.0's (BOOTS) still work fine for me. Uh... you ARE talking about boots, right? I know Markers make bindings that you have to stay away from (pre-release and knee injury issues?) and I like Tyrolia bindings. The Mojo 11 is a good budget binding....

China vs USA vs German-made is bull. Though I do like Prior's handmade skis, which are made right in Whistler! I'm considering getting the Originals for my next pair... in a couple of years, probably.

My PE's aren't quite falling apart just yet.

Pepsi as sponsor should be cool. I like Pepsi much better than Coke.

If you do end up in BC, give me a shout and we can go skiing together! The Peak to Peak promises to be amazing, and I haven't finished with the bowls (and more than half the runs) in Whistler yet.

It's just so damn big.

LOL! my bad... Do you go skiing at Blackcomb in the summer at all, and if you do, how does it compare to Mt Hood in the summer (if you have ever been there as well)? Just thought I would ask since you live in the greatest skiing region in the world (year round skiing).

Sorry, never gone summer skiing, and never at Mt. Hood. I should, but I'm too busy playing beach volleyball and ultimate and just looking at the beach.

Bikinis vs snow suits... bikinis win. Sorry.
