I just bought a pair of DT-770 Pros from Musician's Friend:

but the ones they delivered were not the version in the picture on their site.

The ones I got are similar to these:

in that they were all black with white text on the cans, but the text on the cans only says " DT 770 Pro R" and "DT 770 PRO L". The Beyerdynamic))) logo is embossed (not colored) above the can only on this part and nowhere else:

Does anyone else know what version of headphones I ended up getting? They sounded pretty good but I sent them back because the one I got was defective, I think the diaphragm in the left ear was torn. They're going to send me a replacement soon and I'm wondering whether I should cancel the order in case they're fakes (???)

I bought mine recently from ebay, and they are exactly the same as you describe.

If they are fakes, they sound bloody good to me.

There are DT770 knockoffs out there, but no fakes that I've heard of.

Phew! Glad they're not fakes But does anyone know what year they're from? Why does everything else look so different?

I'm guessing it's a refresh of the DT770 Pro/80 - but why not call beyer usa and ask?
