I love my ER-4p's, and they sound really good with the foamies, but would like something a little more "low profile", which doesn't cause the weight of the cord to pull so much on the earpiece.

I have looked at Fixups modded cord (not too keen on operating on my brand new ER's), but I am considering custom earmolds.

Can anyone comment on the fit and profile of the custom earmolds? How are they? Do the pigtails still stick out? Better yet, can anyone with a custom earmold post a pic with the ER-4, preferably in-ear from the front?

Thanks.

Kikimus, I'm about to order a pair of etys 4P....so I'd like to know your opinion about them. How does the Super Mini improve the sound compared to the jack? I have a Total Airhead, have you compared the SM with the TA?

Thanks in advance,
MG

Congrats on the 4's. I love em.

I went with the SM mainly because of the size (I wanted to drive the 4p with the S adapter (fixup) from my ipod/pcd).

Strictly from my home stereo (pre-amp output):

The "P" doesn't seem to benefit as much from the SuperMini as it does with the "s" converter. Detail improves quite a bit, the treble is crystal clear (mini+S adapter), and the bass is definately more present.

I would highly reccomend getting (or making) the adapter for for the minor additional expense.

W/O the "S" adapter it seems a bit harsh in the mids out of the amp to me, but I haven't run it this way as much. Not as detailed, bass seems a little boomy (not too bad though).

Good luck!

When I wear my Etys with the rubber tips, the barrel is at a 45% angle and the cable hangs straight down.

With my custom molds (from Sensaphonic), they don't go in the ear as far, and the angle is different -- the barrel is parallel to the ground and the cable is at a 45% angle. This causes them to stick out a good bit more.

Ohhh.... as I feared

Thanks for the reply. It looks as if this may not help reduce the profile after all. Maybe I will spring for the fixup cord instead. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks again.

Although Ety's are already somewhat low profile the Fixup cord makes em even less noticable since they don't sport the red and blue aircraft landing lights or anything.

They also help reduce microphonics and don't require a shirt clip since the resistor pod is either at one end or the other instead of dangling in the middle. But this may all be moot as I don't know if Fixup makes anymore replacement cords...perhaps too time consuming.

Not really a must-have, but definitely nice, and if my cord ever gets damaged I'd just snap the stock cord back on and not be out $50 bucks or lost time.

As for the drag, just use the shirt clip...its basically almost required given the dangling middle pod.

I think I'll give the cord a shot.

I e-mailed fixup since I don't see them listed for sale on his site.

Thanks again.
