SysteX, do you have any work to do? It appears to me that there isn't a book in sight

SysteX, how did you build that rack and what was the total cost? I remember reading about it in another thread, but can't recall the details.

I used an adjustable steel shelving system that I bought from here. Total cost for 4 46" posts, 5 24"x18" shelves, and three sets of large hooks (to hang the headphones off the sides of the rack) was $180 shipped. It's extremely heavy duty--each shelf can hold about 200 lbs--and looks pretty good too, given its price.

No. Classes don't start for another 8 days. But don't worry, once they do I'll have plenty of work to do.

It looks like said monitor has a hot pixel, no?

Although it does have one dead pixel, I think what you're assuming is a hot pixel is in fact my pointer (the little white "splotch" towards the right side of the screen?), as it would be incredible for you to see the single dead pixel from my photo.

Erm wow, I really should have thought about that. You are correct, I saw your pointer.

Here's my setup as of today, a week into my junior year. apologies for the quality of the pic, its my cell phone. my monitor is sitting on my old school pioneer receiver, which is flanked by my new pioneer speakers, the glowing thing is my desktop.

wow.

can't say i spend that much on anything other than books, but the nice thing is that usually my roommates have no idea how expensive headphones can get. one of my last roommates used my grado sr80s to play GoW.

I wish I could post my rig, but I don't have my own pc.

I would upload unto my roommates computer, but I am not sure he would like that.

I have enjoyed going through this thread and view other college students' rigs.

Time to revive the thread... I've been lazy about it, but I finally got around to taking pics of my room/dorm set up today. And while I was at it, I figured I'd get a little crazy and try out something I've never done. I took a pano of my room today... the first one I've ever done. Used Photoshop CS3 to put it together via the Photomerge feature, and I think it turned out okay. Taking pictures of (and stitching) a 360° pano is pretty tough, but I'm pleased with it. Enjoy

Here's the pano (click to view it, it's way too big to post here):

And here's a close-up of my setup:

When I move into a dorm next year, out of my relative's basement. It'll be the exact same as I have now. My laptop, a big ass screen, my CD player with all my headphones. All I need. An amp/dac may makes its way in depending on how my wallet feels. Simplicity is the key. I could never stand 4-5 computers. When I had two I went nuts trying to keep them sync. Im almost goin nuts having an external HD with my sole laptop (for some reason I always have to make my music setup complicated. One library for Lossless, one for lossy. One for crappy lossy.....)

you know what just hit me is that it's sad these days that folks show off their gear rather than their music collection; i guess with vinyl dying off it wasn't as cool to display; bums me out a bit
