If I have an Audio Technica turn table that has an included preamp in the component is it a bad idea to hook it into (pioneer) home amp in the phono slot. I guess why I am asking is will this double amp the signal and cause damage to either component?

Which one should you plug it into?

1) Yes it is a bad idea, the phono stage has an inverse RIAA eq in it but your TT already has an inverse RIAA eq built in, so dont do it. It may or may not damage the amp but it will certainly sound wrong.

2) Any other line level input such as CD Tape Aux or Tuner will do
