A few years back, I was browsing the world section at my local barnes and noble. You see, I grew up in an isolated suburban neighborhood, and barnes and noble was about as diverse as music sections got around there. Anyways, I began listening to a CD entitled Mi Buenos Aires Queridos, and it featured the music of master tango composer and accordeon/bandoneon afficionado Astor Piazzolla. Track 2 was the actual version of what many might remember as the theme song from Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys... with a very passionate and dramatic accordeon melody that came to embody insanity for me. I remember being drawn to that CD, and it has been steadily playing in my rotation for the past 4 or 5 years. About a year ago, I picked up another Piazzola CD called Rough Dancer and the Cyclical Night. This was also a tango masterpiece, and featured several unconventional instruments (such as a drumset, saxophone, etc.) Piazzolla has had many CD's released, but I have not listened to a whole lot of them. One that I was particularly interested in giving a shot was a collaboration between him and yo-yo ma (though to my understanding, yo-yo ma took some pre-recorded accordeon playing after piazzolla's death and played along with them).

Anyways, I have recently been listening to these two CDs pretty extensively, and with the W1000's they are really something quite fabulous. The thick resonance of the accordeon/bandoneon and the dynamics are wonderful. The w1000s bring out so much detail to these pieces as well, and in several tracks the clicks of the accordeon keys can be heard (which, to me, is very cool).

I just wanted to share the world of tango with everyone, and was curious whether anyone else held a similar fascination with the music. Accordeon's are not just for polka and the realm of Weird Al Yankovic -- they can be beautiful instruments too!
