Exactly! Glad you hear you say this.

point taken ive just been pretty absorbed in listening to these two amps the past couple weeks but now as i see how the impressions turned out i feel like i was overly critical, but it occured to me that i didnt set the prices.

You guys have made a good point on the money factor. When I went to the National Meet my goal was to find a balance SS amp and listen to the UE9. I was dead set (from reading posts) on either a GS-X or a Rudistor amp. Here comes the Apache and it did things for me that the other two did not even come close to. This is just me and the cost of the trip saved me on the upgrade factor x10 fold. Having heard multiple amps (with differents sources) it narrowed the field for me to one amp only, even though it was well above what I had initially set as a limit for a headphone amp. It just goes to show that reviews are nice but actually time with these wonderful amps is important to decern your tastes and insure your happiness. Isn't that what it is all about anyways?

Had a similar experience as johnsonad.... listened to all the usual suspects, but was constantly drawn back to the Apache for another listen and another and another. That told me something... not sure what, but I wanted to listen to the Apache. The coup de grace came when Ray let me listen to his R10s through the Apache.... deal done!

seriously i don't know how else to describe this, they are both great, its preference. the Apache was a clear improvement on the HR-2, the GS-X a clear improvement on the GS-1, but they are not clear improvements on each other, they just present differently and ive done my best to convey that.

Thanks for the review- even though I just bought an amp (waiting for it now). I really appreciate the comments you left above - letting other Head-fiers know their mileage may vary depending on the quality of their source, other synergy factors... BUT ALL in all the buyer of either headphone will be pleased.

BTW, come a long way from a micro-DAC and associated hi-fi, huh?

Were you comparing the single ended sections or balanced against SE of HR-2 ?
