Good choice, MediaMonkey is great! I would purchase the full version to support the dev's, but I'm considering switching to linux only soon.

I think terrymx has said all is need to be said. And EsthetiX has got his answer for alternative software.

Id just like to say untill last week I also viewed itunes & ipod as a bunch of rubbish. Having owned a 60gb ipod photo.

Now I am using iTunes to set up my new lossless library, I have come to think its great (apart from slight bloatedness, and added quicktime), since its just simple to use compared to my old method of EAC+Lame+Tag&Rename+ manuually moving and organiising folders. Plus its error correction mode is good enough for me compared to EAC. As for the ipods themselves. Idonly ever consider an imod.

Either way glad EsthetiX got his answer, it is a shame when manufacturers force unescassary add-ons to you.

Nothing is wrong with it. Itunes with error correction on, is a good ripper.

And as for Apple Lossless, there is no reason is better or worse than other codecs such as FLAC (apart from the fact you can only use it on ipods)

No all lossless is audibly the same, unless you prefer certain traits such as ReplyGain or open source nature of FLAC, MS or Apple environments. etc. But ripping and encoding is not the same. As mentioned earlier, I've never seen a side-by-side test of rippers, but if on Windows and if you want the best reporting on success of what was just ripped, EAC should be considered. Again hardware plays a huge part of this. In my case I kept a PC solely to run EAC, but eventually settled on iTunes on my Mac (which for those keeping score is much more extensible than on the PC) as it had a better drive. If you're using the same drive on the same machine you may or may not have better luck with EAC. As has been repeated many times, a perfect rip of a pop or scratch is a pop or scratch. With problematic discs you may want multiple ways to rip to audibly compare to the original.

On good quality discs potentially not at all. Error correction really only plays a significant role when you have a problematic disc. Check the backs for scratches, etc.

Yes, iTunes is much better on the Mac than on the PC platform, unfortunately for iPod owning PC types. For a rip-and-encoder on Mac, Max beats iTunes, I think. It is also fantastic for transcoding from lossless to lossy for particular purposes.

I guess "tokens of appreciation" don't work both ways.

See ya

what about how "fashionable" it is to hate itunes and apple? How "cool" it is that you are going "against the grain"

come on man!

Im not an apple fan boy or anything. I dont care if you dont like ipods. I don't like a lot of things apple does. I have never purchased music on their music store.

But I also think they do a lot of great things as well. And thats the reality of it. Its not black and white. Everything is a mixed bag.
