Thoughts on the EQUATION AUDIO RP-21

I ordered a pair from a UK studio company (Dolphin Music)... it went on back order, then two weeks later they told me the headphones were 'discontinued'.

I got on the phone to Equation HQ in the US - they confirmed that they're not discontinued at all but are having problems with their UK distributor. I was told they'd get back to me with details of a new reseller, but I haven't heard anything yet. Anyone know how to get these things in the UK without importing them?

HI: How are you? Can you post the part # of the beyer pads and a link would be great. Thank you.
How do you get the pads off? I get them to turn but not come off.

OK after 9 hours of music I got to watch and listen to a movie. KING KONG. Just a memorable listen. I mean when she is running through the brush you hear all kinds of high end sounds. The bass is just awesome. When the ape grows it goes right through me. These are great for TV Movies listening. I am getting the DENON D1000 tomorrow or Monday and will a/b them. I cant see how the D1000 could sound any better but I will see or hear that is. LOL.

Love the sound, but they were not comfortable enough with the stock pads for me. OK, but not great. With Beyer pads though, VERY comfortable.

I got my pleather Beyer pads today, and I like the comfort much better. I don't notice much difference in SQ, but if anything I like the Beyer pads a bit better.

That is EXCELLENT news, since the Pleather pads are easy to get.

Yesterday I ordered from Beyer USA a set of DT770 velour pads at about $25 for the RP21. Should get them next week and I will post pics/impressions.

I don't mean to be the pessimist at your party, but I tried the Beyer velour pads on the RP-21's and hated them. They sucked out a lot of bass, and muddied things up. Warrior05 reported the same findings which promted me to try it. The pleather on the other hand had no ill effects, and while not quite as comfy as velour are still pretty darn comfy. Let us know what you think though once you've tried them.

I think Equation should offer the Beyer Pleather pads as an option - they could certainly buy / clone the things for an additional $10 - make it an option, and charge an extra $15. Or, real leather for an additional $25.

Guys, are you listening? We've done the research for you, with no extra labor, and little or no extra product cost. Oh, and some aftermarket cable connectors wouldn't be a bad idea either - make a call to Neutrik or Switchcraft.

Let me know if there are any other marketing freebies I can help you guys with.

Yeah, a larger, thicker, comfier pad would be a really good improvement for the RP21.

You could try beyer velours with the inside walls of the pads covered in a layer of vinyl tape, like some people have done with K501 pads.

iirc at least one Sennheiser design has hybrid velour/vinyl pads in a similar configuration.

Funy thing is that the pleather is cheaper ($19.90). However plastic is very hot and unconfortable, at least to me. BTW if they do not work I can always keep them as spares for my DT990.
