I've been powering AKG K240 Sextett with Almarro A205a MkII, and Jee Whiz, this thing almost sounds like a Grado, notably RS-1, in the midrange. RS-1 has better bass, but Sextett has better upper-mid/treble smoothness...

BTW, anyone know what kind of glue works best to repair a rip in the AKG K240 Sextett headband? Anybody try any mods for these? I'm looking at the very thin and old headphone cable right now with some ideas...

That looks like it's probably the very old version with the orange radiators. The one with the white radiators has more tuneful bass. Still, even that version of the K240 is better than owning most other headphones.

I've done my share to help spread awareness.

25 years old sounds about right.

My K240-M dates to about 1980. 1st version of the "Monitor" revision, if the lore be correct, based on the K241. I like it real well. Haven't heard a sextett yet. Facelvega says he likes Fitz's K241 better than his own sextett. Dunno which version sextett that is.

Picked up a K260Pro last week and a K240DF this week.

Probably won't own a sextett until they fade from the head-fi memory again or i stumble across a thoroughly obscured deal, like the Fostex T20 v1 i picked up for $10 this week.

Oh, about the headband - you might go to an auto parts store and see about a black vinyl repair kit.

Based on what little listening I've done so far, it does not look like the K241 will be dethroning my K240 anytime soon.

The K240DF! Yes, this is a very underrated headphone.

You can still get them for around $30-$50 all the time, how cheap do you need them to be?

Ya, and for less than $40 shipped. Some fool engraved it, so i get to order more parts from Frank if i want it to look 'perfect'.

What part of "cheap person" don't you understand?

Um, are you using double negative in your sentence on purpose?

This is what happens when I go back and edit a sentence, but do not re-read the whole thing.

Left-side badge and right-side, uh, the service doc calls it a "Lid" but it's the ring that snaps onto the baffle, says "Studio Monitor" on the DF version only.

Oddly enough Frank says the ring is in stock but the badge has to come from vienna.

He's also telling me K260 elastics are out of stock. Curse you! At least on the K260Pro my ponytail rubberband retrofit is invisible.

Oh ok, I do not have spares for those parts.

And I just put the new elastics on my K260Pro a few hours ago.

I wonder how many parts I keep AKG perpetually backordered on. I think I've spent around $440 with them so far, although I think I've ended up selling off probably $75 of those parts. (I got two pairs of velour pads while everybody was waiting months for them, but I ended up deciding not to keep them, plus a few other odds and ends I sold off).

Jon, you snatched the pair of sextetts I tried to get! No harm no foul though, I managed to get a pair elsewhere. Hirez photos:

Man all this praise is making me really anxious to get them! I don't have them yet, they are shipping now from overseas.

Fitz, would you mind if I posted the information you gave to me via PM in this thread? I do believe that information is the most accurate and complete compilation of sextett sonic differences I have ever seen. When will you be creating your master sextett info thread that you have referenced to plan on creating in the past?

EDIT:
Oh and Gil you should be able to hear my sextett at the chicago meet. Hopefully my MPX3 slam toaster will have it's servicing at singlepower complete in time for the meet.

Getting them from Europe, are you? Looks like you're getting the white passive version. Yeah, I would like to know the Sextett versions, too.

I suspect these things all need very stout amps to come alive, and that's exactly how mine sounds right now. Playing some well-recorded recent Holly Cole and Cat Power today, I almost fell out of my chair, the voices sounded so spooky real...

Of course they need a good amp! They are 600 ohms

I will be using my freshly serviced toaster mpx3 slam with them, which is almost done being serviced, and is getting the pot upgraded to the nobel!

I've been wanting to get one for a while, but am worried that it will be too similar to my K340's to warrant ownership...
