i'm deciding to get either the Sennheiser MX400s or the MX500s, or the Aiwa VX100s. I heard good things about the sound of the VX100s, but I hear they are uncomfortable, and they look sort of ugly. I hear mostly good things about them, though. I am hearing mostly praise about the Sennheiser MX4/500s, too. what is the difference between the 400s and the 500s - only the volume control and color? they have the same specs, but i heard people comparing the sound. i think there's debate about that one. I want to get a pair of 400s because i dont want the volume control and I also don't like the color of the 500s. how do they look in the ear? i think the 888s are ugly, because they're too skinny and shiny. I want a pair of black 400s.. i want nice looking, low profile earphones. can people tell me more about the differences between the 4 and 500s or how they compare to the Aiwa VX100s? I'm not looking to spend more than 40, so please dont reccomend anything that costs more than that. Also, I wouldn't mind any other reccomendations for any other earphones.

I have the Aiwa hp-V600 which is supposed to be the same as the VX100s and I do not particularly care for the sound. Others really like them, go figure. Mine are mainly relegated to listening to AM radio. Very rarely will I use them for music. I also have the MX500 and I really like them. For the price, they are simply amazing. I honestly don't know if they are the same as the MX400s, but that's what people say. BTW, I never use the volume control on the MX500.

I have the MX500 and I absolutely love them. If you have any concerns about the volume control, don't. It's extremely small and unobtrusive and can serve as an impromptu mute button.

The MX500 get rave reviews here from most members and those are well deserved. They've been called the best headphone value and I concur_. They sound better than earbuds four times the price.

Regarding differences between the MX400 and MX500, there seems to be a difference, although not all wolud agree. See this thread:

Hope this helps!

The MX500 are rather dark blue and don't stand out that much. At least they aren't silver, that's the worst I think.

I find the vx100 way too muddy in the bass. The Senns provide better overall sound but I personally use the vx100 because it offers better isolation.
