Well, I have received my 160 GB Black X7 yesterday and I am having eargasms right now.

1. It is bigger than other machines, but it does not feel so big once it's in your hands. Some people may be curious about it, so I'm telling you: it fits in my shirt pockets easily. And neither my body nor my pockets are larger than what you would call "regular size" - no pun intended.

2. The sound quality is amazing as expected. Certainly much better sounding than both Ipod 6th gen and Zune 120. The customizable EQ is awesome.

3. The screen is much more responsive than how I feared it would be. I noticed that under the "System" settings there is a "Touch Calibration" section. The responsiveness and accuracy improved greatly after I used the back of a pen instead of my finger to calibrate it. I strongly advise you to play with it to get the best results.

4. The user manual in the box was Korean, but getting around the UI was a piece of cake. The UI is not hard to use at all, though it needs to be slightly improved via firmware updates. A "next" button on the now playing (music, video) and now showing (pictures) menu would be nice, instead of having to go up one level to see the track list in the folder.

EDIT: I just noticed that with a swiping movement one can skip to the next track.

5. Somebody had asked how to switch to the text menu: hold the tactile "M" button on the bottom front and you will switch between text and widget/icon menu.

6. The quality of the sample videos seem quite fine to me. But I have to say these sample videos maybe the last videos ever to be in my X7, for I'm not a video-on-the-go person... So take my judgement of the video quality with a pinch of salt.

This much for now. In summary, up till now I'm delighted to have this thing!

I'll comment on the battery life later...

meurglys0, nice brief review.  It would be interesting if Cowon were to allow the use of UCI edited UI's on the X7, to allow programmers to work around some of the quirkiness that many have mentioned about the factory UI.

From the sound of it, I think we may hear from you regarding the battery life some time next year - when it finally runs out.

Naw, I ordered a clip+ instead. I'll skip this, and I'll see what Cowon has down the road. Really, this a sigh IMO - so I'll pass.

No it is not a Omen, you just have to try harder to get it :D

A 4.3" screen @ 480x272?  Why even bother mentioning video, that's terrible especially for $320.  My phone's 3.6" does 800x480 and it's almost 2 years old now.  What DAC is this thing using?

@Anaxilus,

I believe it's a Wolfson chip, but I cannot locate my source on that at the moment.  If I am incorrect on this, I apologize in advance.

@nywtyboy68,

An X7 to a Clip+ that's quite the form factor change.  Nice idea though to hold you over in the meantime.  I like my Clip & Fuze so much that I asked for a Clip+ for Christmas.  It's just nice to be able to share SD cards between the two.

I am too waiting for something else. I hope the D3 is out soon. It is not understandable, why Cowon waits so long to release this one.
