Meier Corda Cross or Naive Software Crossfeed for Foobar
May 9, 2007 at 12:31 AM Post #5 of 17
the naive software makes the music subtly more anemic but enough to give me ear fatigue... I'd rather have no crossfeed.

The meiers fill out the holes in the soundstage naturally and makes music less fatiguing... I leave crossfeed on my headfive ON all the time

Simple as that

Whether its worth the money to get the standalone corda cross depends if you are sensitive to crossfeed and appreciate its effects but just like my analogy "its better not to listen to any music at all than to listen to music that pisses you off", same goes for crossfeed. I'd rather listen to a pure signal without crossfeed than a bad implementation of it.

I haven't listened to the Foobar crossfeed because I like the crossfeed on my Corda too much. The HA-2 has 2 crossfeed settings and different songs benefit from different settings. Some it doesn't affect that I can tell, but others it makes them a lot better. Highly recommended.

I'd like to take back what I said a few days ago about the meier crossfeed. Its still better than foobars crossfeed but after extensive listening, I now prefer no crossfeed still because it makes my 595s a little nasal sounding compared to when the crossfeed is off. I like the crossfeeds effect but wish it could be less of a tone control still

I personally don't use the cross feed feature in meier amp. Due to the fact that I realized some small detail/bass will decrease once cross feed is on

Meier crossfeed is very good. When I had the Headfive, the crossfeed was always on for large scale classical music. It's almost like listening to speakers again. The blending is much more believable than the Foobar crossfeed and the width of the soundstage doesn't suffer too much.

This is true for classical also for me but I'm a set and forget kind of guy and I hate mixing audiophile mode with music enjoyment mode so I just listen to all kinds of music during audiophile mode to base how I set up my system. In this case, crossfeed on or off... I make my decision, then go on to listen to the music. Crossfeed off won for the majority of my music so i'll leave it off for now and will check again with my audiophile mode next month or so. Makes it fun for me

Don't remember how the Naive crossfeed sounds but I have used bs2b for a long time and then a few weeks ago I was wondering why the sound "starts" to become quite unpleasant to me ( harsh ). So I tried my Corda Headfive crossfeed again - crossfeed I was flaming 4 months ago - and my whole verdict reversed

. Oh well, that's weird..

Highly brainkilling question : could it be possible to make a software version of it for my laptop ( + incoming E-MU 0202 ) according to the Meier specs here ?

Well....got the corda cross 1 today....how long should I give it before returning it? All it really seems to do is to make the music quieter. I tried playing music I knew was poorly mixed (ie. huge separation between the L and R) such as THE BAND- THE WEIGHT from the remastered MUSIC FROM BIG PINK and it sounded exactly the same, just quieter.

Am I missing something here?

Yes.

Choose a song, listen to it through speakers.
Then listen to it through headphones without crossfeed.
You should hear some differences, and if you keep listening to the "raw" headphones sound you'll get an headache.

Again, listen to it through speakers.
Then listen to it through headphones with (Meier) crossfeed on.
Sounding should be a alot closer, and in fact much less fatiguing because crossfeed unburden your brain which doesn't have to mix l and r channels itself anymore.

The natural sounding of headphones isn't accurate because almost all the music ever made is recorded in order to be played by speakers, and this is what crossfeed is about : making headphones souding accurate to speakers sounding.
Got it ?
You can find detailed info on the acoustic differences there and there :

Just a quick noob question....does the Corda Cross-1 require any sort of power source? I've been looking at the pictures and it seems to only have rca-in and rca-out?
