I want to have more info on the use of an amp with an Ipod 5.5

I just got my Shure E500 and their is some hiss and I read that the use of an amp will get rid of the hiss.

I think the best way to connect the iPod to an amp is by using the output plug and not the jack output right ? Then you plug the headphones on the amp.

When you listen to music do we need to control the volume with the amp knob or we can use the iPod scrolling wheel ?

How much I need to spend on a small and portable amp to use with my iPod 5.5 80gig and my Shure E500 ?

What brand of cable ?
What brand of amp ?

I live in Montreal quebec so is their any reseller here in Canada for amps ?

Thank you

Correct. Using line out from he dock connector at the bottom of the iPod, into the amplifier. Then plug the headphones into the amplifier.

You control the volume from the amplifier.

If your wallet allow it, you should check out Ray Samuels Audio Tomahawk or Hornet: http://www.raysamuelsaudio.com/index2.html

Welcome to Head-Fi! Sorry about your wallet...

Although I suppose that it's too late now seeing that you have a E500 and you're also looking at a Tomahawk!

Ray Samuels amplifiers are highly regarded around here, and (from what I've read) the Tomahawk is no exception to that, and sounds much bigger than you might assume from it's size. Also the Shure e500 happens to mate very well with Ray Samuels amps, or atleast their house sound.

As for a amplifier from Canada, their's the Go Vibe, which is pretty good.

Also, I see you're a fellow Montrealer!

EDIT: Oooh! My 666 post!

You can email Turbo here on the forums, he is based in FL in the states and builds excellent cables for about 50.00 US. He has a site also with pics,

Here is the interconnect he built for my IPOD and Hornet

Thank you all for the nice feedback !

Wow Go-Vibe amp are not too expensive compared to RSA Tomahawk !

For the wire I think I can made it myself. I just need to find the iPod line out connector and also the pin out for the wire.

All the rest: wire, plug and the shrink tube I already have that.

Anyone now the name of the plug that hookup to the iPod dock connector ?

Thanks

http://www.qables.com has a Do-it-yourself (DIY) section, you can get the connectors there.

http://pinouts.ru/Devices/ipod_pinout.shtml has pinouts for IPOD connector.
