I have a Dynaco St-70 amp and I love how it sounds. I want to make it my headphone amp and was wondering any recommendations for headphones. Out of all the audio equipment I have heard - I have a tendency for balance and neutrality - I had some Senni 650 but they wore my ears out, er4's were my cup of tea but having it stick in my ear all the time wasn't very comfortable. Don't like grados either i think they make my ear bleed. I was thinking of Stax either the 303 or the 404 only like 50 dollar difference. Or is there any other alternative my limit here is about a grand but looking to spend around 400.

A second question is how to make the headphones plug into the amp, does anyplace have special replacement cables?

Most headphone-to-amp connections are just done by a mini jack cable, or if you have a large jack you can buy a large-to-mini connector which you can find at any electronics store for ~$5. As far as headphones go, Ive heard good things about the AKG K701 for a full-sized can, but since youve used E4's, you may also wanna check out an IEM...in this case I'd say either go for the UE Triple .fi 10 or wait for the Westone 3. Each are around the $400 mark.
