Looking for a quality 1/8 to RCA cable that won't break the bank. Would like to stay well under a $100. So no cables from Moon Audio or ALO. So far, I have found these:

Signal Cable Analog Mini [2 ft. $36]

Signal Cable SilverMini [2 ft. $69]

Zu Cable PIVOT [.5-1M about $45]

Kimber Mini to RCA [1ft $59; 1M $79]

Any comments on these choices. Also, what else is out there in this price range.

Thanks

Heh, I jumped in as soon as I saw the subject line.

The SilverMini is worth the jump over the Analog Mini IMO. The jump in clarity was more than incremental and in my system, it made a bigger difference due to my sources. It was also one of the upgrades that took me to "I can't tolerate lo-fi anymore!" level.

I can still hear where it doesn't rank up to its companion the Silver Res Analog but it's still an excellent IC, I'll eat my shirt if it doesn't compete with those others you posted!

Oh and I should probably add, most of the Signal Cable products are pretty stiff. Kinda puts a damper on what would otherwise be a stellar product (IMO). I understand silver ICs in general are supposed to be stiff, but this is almost ridiculous. I never bend these for fear of breaking them, I just leave them to their coiling tendencies. The Analog Mini is probably the most flexible IC that he makes - it's like a slippery snake!

I've owned the Pivot and I've owned the Kimber. I suggest Aural Thrills Audio Silver iPod cable.

That cable looks real nice. I don't see any prices on the website. How much is it?

$24.99 + $10 S&H. He's got 'em listed on eBay right now at that price.

Im running the Acoustic Research (AR) Performance Series 3 foot RCA to mini cable that i bought from Best Buy for 12.99. I think it sounds fine and seems to be built of nice quality for the money. Would i hear an improvment in sound with a 60 dollar cable? Im using it from my home cd player to my mico amp...

I'm also using an AR cable. Nothing too fancy, but there isn't anything offensive about it. The BJC looks nice.

My off the cuff answer would be, yes, you'll hear an improvement, or at least a difference. I became a cable believer when Highflyin9 made a couple of mini-to-mini interconnects for me and they both provided better definition and sound than the common $15 Cardas 6" cable. BTW, I have no experience with the AR cable. I've seen them in Best Buy and they do look nice.

But as with a lot of things associated with our hobby, whether you hear a difference depends on multiple factors (your ears, gear), and whether the difference is worth the money to you is a personal decision.
