Rather than make a woefully offtopic reply to the 'swearing' thread...

Is it even possible to close your account? Not that I"d try

, but I've always thought that the only way to get rid of your Head-Fi account is to pull a Ricky. (i.e. get banned.)

I guess it all boils down to how "offended" a culture we've become in the last 10 years or so, if you are willing to cancel your membership to a forum because someone drops an f bomb here and there you probably shouldn't be on internet forums in the first place if you are so easily offended. After reading that thread I thought about it and I can honestly say that I never even noticed it (the swearing) before. Someone posted that they take it upon themselves to alert a mod whenever they see a profanity, talk about getting a life is what I say! I often see people here talk about this place as being a community, if you think about that it means that there will be people in the community that you get along with and people that you don't get along with. I would say that this forum has survived and will survive if people who are so easily offended stop coming here if they don't like it, no one is forcing them to read or post here. And on top of that instead of threatening to be the "swearing police" that they just use the option of ignoring posts of these "bad" people who use profanities. Of course as always this is just my opinion, so I hope no one got offended in reading this......

I feel that an occasional curse displays the persons emotion at that particular moment better. Sometimes I can sense the person wanting to curse but holding back due to etiqutte. Blatant cursing is what I dont like..

LOL!

I wasn't actually thinking about cancelling MY membership (LOL, that'll be the day...) , nor was I linking anything to swearing. I was just wondering whether it IS possible to cancel membership without, say, posting **** and/or annyoing anti-audiophile rants in every forum (making sure that they all go to the WRONG forum, so the Cable guys are reading about how sources can't possibly make pigs fly nor enlarge your hard drive without pills or pumps and the headphone guys are bewilderededly scratching their heads over the Budget Capacitor's Manifesto while the poor DIY guys are wondering who on earth would think that classical music when reverse-XORed with the third second of Eminem's second to latest CD's fourth track reveals hidden messages about the meaning of the color yellow, of course)

I could ban you if you want eric??

Seriously though, I can't see any way of doing so... apart from either getting on everyones nerves, and getting banned... or, just not coming back?!

I think you can simply stop coming here, maybe even changing you e-mail address and choosing "unsuscribe" for every post you ever replied to and not getting e-mail notifications every time somebody sends you an e-mail or PM. The best way to quit on something is moving away.

If someone really wanted to quit I am sure Neil or Jude could accommodate them if they wanted to. I remember sometime back where a member was forced to change his name because of the threat of legal action and they took care of him. Jude also talked about it in a post about the number of people with zero posts.

Oh yeah, just fill out the small Head-Fi Termination Application form (17 pages, in WordStar 1.0 format) and telex it to our office in Florence, Italy. Please be sure to fill it out in Russian, however, because Vlad "The Account Impaler" Khompsky has a very difficult time with foreign languages. In fact, he's a little behind in the account cancellation queue -- so be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope (using Russian postal stamps, of course) so that he can mail you the Head-Fi Termination Application Confirmation Form when he goes back to Minsk next autumn.

Don't forget to include your cancellation fee. You may remit that to any of the moderators. Dollar amount based on post count.

fyrfytrhoges,

you misunderstood my words. i have no problem with profanity. what I was alluring to was personal attacks upon members. usually personal attacks degrade to curse swapping. i would alert moderators of the fact that a thread is no longer a flame war but a full blown personal war between two guys, and I would want the moderators to step in and reconcile the two parties.

everybody curses. but when people start going into people's profiles and past posts to gather information to mount a vendetta against a person - then it becomes a distraction to the community.

you should hear what i've called some s.o.b. while playing on-line games.

the last thing i want is this community to turn into a techimo forum. we are all here to share our love of headphoneia, not to wage wars with each other. as far as I'm concerned, swear away. it won't bother me. until someone directs their anger at me. then it has become personal. and that's when i want moderators, like referees, stepping in.

peace.
