IMHO, Breckenridge Brewery 471 IPA or Breckenridge Brewery Avalanche Reserve with O'Dells 90 Shilling being a strong second. Breck's Holiday Ale is pretty damn good too.

And don't get me started on "But Becks a german beer". It's really bad in contrast to many fine bavarian beers there are:
"Augustiner Edelstoff", "Unertl Naturtrüb", "Hacker-Pschorr", "Heylands", just to name a few i really like.
The best beer on the list is by far Pilsner Urquell: One of the greatest Pilsener on this planet. And when we're at czech beer: If you ever have the chance, try the real Budweiser (not this cheap washy name knock-off from anheuser-busch)
from České Budějovice. That's a real great beer.
Sorry to sound elitist, but if beer is part of your cultur, you can get a bit picky^^
a true bavarian, expert in good brew and not shy about sharing!
pilsner urquell is a personal favorite of mine, in the 24 oz bottles we get in the states. becks is kind of my coors, cheap and easy to drink.
i listed czechvar because i thought it was the original "budvar" (as it was originally labelled in the states) you mentioned. it is an incredibly complex and rich pilsner; amazing.
From the list, either Pilsener Urquell or Guiness. My favourite beer is Tegernseer, a real nice Bavarian blonde. Augustiner works, too, and is more commonly available even abroad. Chimay is also yummy and I actually like Samuel Adams quite a lot. I used to think that German is vastly superior to everything else (lived 10 years in Munich), but after drinking beers from different parts of the world, that's simply not true, apart from people having different tastes anyway.

I think this is the great thing about beer culture. Although, having some relatives in Austria (so their first tastes are wine and then German style beers of course), we do antagonize one another about what's the best beer. They can't stand stout or English style ales. Here in the States, most great beer is locally brewed. The first thing I did when I moved to Atlanta was find out where the brew pubs were. Porters and stouts are my favs....followed by American ales (read ales and not lagers), then German Alts or Dunkles, then English ales, and well then all others. I haven't had an American Budweiser in ages....and don't plan on touching it anytime soon. So there are plenty of American beer snobs too......you're in good company!

/my vote went to czechvar
Good choice^^ Sometimes i preferr Budweiser even to some bavarian beers, since pilsner is not really our trade. We are more specialized in Helles and Wheat Beer
@omedon: If you like czech beer you might know Kruzovice or Kozel as well, two excellent bears of their trade as well
PS: that wikipedia article about Helles is terribly wrong in the fact, that Helles is brewed in munich. It sounds almoust like it's only brewed in Munich, or was invented there, which both is wrong, wrong, wrong. Might to rewrite the article if i find a spare minute.

You mean the full sized liters from Ireland? Yeah.....still not as strong as the Foreign Import label....I likes my beer with bite in it
Also, as a side note, I found out that the Irish Guinness has the least amount of alcohol (because of alcohol taxes in Ireland). The U.S. has the second highest percentage of alcohol in their draft Guinness, seconded by Australia that has the highest. Still no where near the high gravity beers of course.

You would be surprised how often german brewers are involved, when it comes to good beers brewed abroad. My cousin studied brewery engineer, and it's crazy how they are sought-after in many countries around the planet.
But to be frank, i don't think that we produce all the best beers in the world, but a real bavarian would never admit this publicly...
My favorite beers are all either french country ales or belgian tripels. I could easily populate a list of 20 in that style that would trounce anything on that list.

I've had Spaten, Lowenbrau, and Hofbräu. Lowenbrau is a mighty fine Helles
Still like the Dunkles more: noticed wikipedia has "Weeping Radish" listed as a Dunkle. Actually, in the States, there's a Bavarian brewery in Manteo, NC that's called the Weeping Radish: really good stuff that would make a Bavarian proud

Absolutely. Tsing-Tao, the only acceptable beer in China, used to be a German colony. They even have red brick roofs.

Yeah, I still need to work on that humility.
By the way, I prefer the normal Augustiner to Edelstoff, slightly more herbal taste perhaps.

This stuff;
Not a fan myself, the last couple of times I've drunk the stuff it's been warm - Which doesn't help.
I've not given it a go but I would like to try the Guinness Foreign Extra Stout.
Anchor steam, Guiness or Mendocino Brewing Company Red tail ale... pick em.
I also like Watney's red barrel ale, Newcastle nut brown, Samuel smith Stout, Gordon Biersch.
I like Japanese beers as far as lighter Pilsners go.... Asahi and Sapporo
Heres some pics....
My Local Trader Joes has "Grab Bag Beers" every now and then. Its basically, a brown paper shopping bag, taped shut for $5, and you get 6 bottles of beer picked randomly from their overstock. Its a super fun way to demo all different kinds of beers. Some.. wierd brews from Europe and all over the world. I had an egyptian pilsner that was pretty good. I forget the name.
