Question about changing DVD region code on DVD-ROM drives

of course you can always just buy a region-free dvd player and watch mixed region dvds on your tv set. thank goodness i don't have to buy dvds from England, Japan, China, Italy, Germany, Greece, Australia, etc. i'm blissfully ignorant of what's available out there. hope none of you guys are swept up on the Supranos.

my next purchase will probably be "The Prisoner", but it's already out on region-1 dvd (10 dvd set). Though I wish i could see all the old Danger Mouse episodes.

I'm slowly building up a Film Noir collection. so most of it is on region-1. i'd hate to find out that they're ALL available in French. good thing I don't speak french. but i know a lot of you guys want to be kind to your old country mom and pop, so you do everything you can to find them dvds from the old country. grandmas and granddads have to be taken care of too...

gregor,
i think that the answer to your original question is that yes, you can use one drive for one region and the other for another region for as long as you want without doing anything involving software or firmware. the region change limitter is within the drive itself so sticking with one region in each drive means that you haven't changed regions on either.

Thanks for answering my question, puck! This is great, I don't even have to worry about installing new software now.
