In my opinion those effects are not the same thing as true soundstage and are really an artificial coloration. If I wanted that feeling I'd run the sound through a spatializer.

The HEV70 does tend to blur and defocus things and with a proper amp it isn't "huge", but I fail to see what could make them seem Grado-like to someone. I wouldn't even regard them as particularly intimate in their presentation.

Oh, and Matt, the HE60 is diffuse-field equalized, just like the Omega 2 is.

Yes, I wasn't talking so much about frequency range coloration per-se, more changes applied in the time dimension, reflections, absorption, etc. Basically spatial effects. Some headphones do seem to mimic such effects by design, the HD595s being an example.

They are about as far from a Grado as is humanly possible. The HE90 is certainly a better headphone, but this is the first time I've heard the HE60 soundstage described as small or "claustrophobic."

Oh well, I suppose everyone hears things differently.

I guess my basis of comparison was flawed, as I compared it against the Omega II.

I did not like the soundstage of the HE60 at all, which is one of the reasons why I sold it off (that and the thinness even with the 007t rolled with 'warm'-colored tubes)

That definitely makes sense, as the Omega II has a more laid back sound with possibly a wider soundstage. I went from the HE60 to the Omega II as well for a while. After a few months, however, I missed the HE60 too much. Bought another pair and used them both for a few more months, and figured out that I loved the HE60 so much more than the Stax that it wasn't even close and that I hardly ever used the Stax. Since then, I was lucky to find a NOS HE60/HEV70 as a backup, and I don't think I'll ever change headphones again (unless, of course, a great deal comes along for the HE90, or I decide to try the balanced HD600s/HD650s one more time).

Guess so.

Regardless of the HE60 v. Omega II debate, I will grant you that you have the best headphone ever made (not having heard the Omega I).

SRV with Albert King on SACD rules, and they have 180 Gram Vinyl of all his stuff too, but those on Redbook don't miss out - they remastered everything there too!

Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan: In Session (Stax SXSA-7501-6), simply brilliant on the HE60.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

If I had to recommend something that would sound amazing, I'd love to hear what you think of Dave Matthews Band circa 1993 (first CD) track 4 from Remember Two Things: Satellite.
