Borat you make valid points about Gonzaga......but what really matters for his future in UFC is what does Dana White think about his performance. I think almost everyone can agree he didn't show much "heart" or warrior spirit and seemed almost ready to quit, just laid against the fence much of the fight and took punishment. This does not go over good with DW and fans, same can be said about Arlovski's last fight which he won but showed no heart and was very tenative

That is why fans love guys like Couture & Liddell, they never quit and go 100% till you KO them, these guys are UFC warriors and become fan favorites and sell PPV tickets

Indeed. And that's something you cannot do against Couture. If you're not in it 100%, Couture will tear you apart.

Gonzaga just isn't on the same level as Couture. I'd like to see a rematch with Cro Cop. While I think Gonzaga has some skill Cro Cop is a better fighter and I don't think he'd lose to Gonzaga a second time.

I'm always a bit surprised to see people praise CroCop. He seems to be one of the most one-dimensional fighters I've seen in recent times. He's more of a throwback to the early days of discipline vs. discipline UFC. I see no ground game to speak of and his overall defense seems non-existent. If he can't bomb you out with a kick, he loses. He doesn't appear to have much of a chin, either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not holding him up or anything but I don't think Gonzaga is on Couture's level which is why I'd like to see those two fight again. That kick just hit him perfectly but he does lack that "chin"... Couture took a couple of solid shots from Gonzaga and barely got wobbly.

Even though I was momentarily sucked into the Gonzaga frenzy after his brutal KO of CroCop, he is definitely not on Couture's level, I couldn't agree more. What disappointed me the most was what looked like a lack of heart. It's really hard to say for sure because he was getting battered, but he looked like he gave up at the end.

Big fan of Couture and the UFC in general. Think it is the future of ring fighting.

Indeed, boxing should just shut off the life support. UFC and Pride is where it's at.

And I'm telling you, he's no good in the cage.

Very true. For all this talk everyone had about how he's improving his ground game, I have yet to see the results. I suppose not getting your arm broken off by Fedor constitutes an improved ground game?

PRIDE is dead. All signs point to Dana White and the Fertittas giving up trying to resurrect it under their ownership. It's really sad. The production of their shows was phenomenal. For my money, I prefer it to the basic no-frills approach of the UFC shows. PRIDE treated their shows like huge sporting events and the fighters seemed larger than life. I think that had a lot to do with why many MMA fans thought PRIDE fighters were on a different level than those in the UFC. I never really saw it that way, but I think it says a lot for their production approach.

It also sucks because a lot of their talented fighters are now going to join other promotions so we will not get to see all the dream fights like we previously thought.

It was reported today that Randy Couture suffered a break in his arm when he defended against this Gonzaga high kick in the 3rd round:

"Randy Couture was informed Sunday by doctors that he’d broken his arm during his third round TKO stoppage of Gabriel Gonzaga. Couture sustained the injury Saturday blocking a Gonzaga right high kick with his left forearm, cleanly separating the ulna bone…. The injury placed the UFC heavyweight champion’s arm in a splint for six weeks. The appendage will not need a cast.”

Randy is freaking tough.

This is what Randy Couture stated in his post-fight press conference:

“I want to fight the best guys in the world. The best guy in the world is Fedor Emelianenko. Bring him on,” said Couture.

Please God make this happen.

Also read further on the link above about former WWE superstar (and owner of phallic looking sword chest tattoo) Brock Lesnar possibly joining the UFC. This article shows that Dana White is optimistic that they will set up a fight with him for early next year.
